Option to disable repetitive “Neural Mix not available with Spotify” Pop-up

Dear Algoriddim users and Team,

Since the release of djay version 5.4.3., Spotify integration has been reintroduced, which is fantastic and very welcome. However, it has also introduced some usability issues that can become quite disruptive during live performances.

As you know, whenever a function or effect that relies on Neural Mix is invoked while using Spotify as a source, a message appears stating:

“Neural Mix cannot be used when streaming from Spotify. This feature is currently not available on this streaming platform.”

The reason for this limitation is clear, but the problem is that this message appears every single time one of these functions is triggered, for example with a lot of Manual or Instant FX, Neural EQ, or Neural Mix waveforms, and it blocks the entire screen, even mid-performance. That can be quite frustrating.

Because it’s easy to forget when using mixed sources (local + Spotify), the pop-up often reappears multiple times during a set, not because I’m getting old, but simply because I mix both types of sources. I would much prefer that the effect just didn’t work silently, without disrupting the rest of the performance. Right now, it interrupts the workflow and overall performance flow.

My suggestion:
Please consider adding an option to disable or suppress this message after it has been shown once, for example a “Don’t show again” checkbox or a setting in Preferences.

This would greatly improve the live performance experience without reducing awareness of the Neural Mix limitation on Spotify tracks.

Thanks!

And on top of this.. when you accidentally trigger a Manual FX that assigned to a stem while playing a Spotify track, the stems mapping automatically resets to the full track. Even after switching back to a local track, it stays that way and doesn’t revert to the previous setting.

So not only do you get the pop-up message, but your effect mapping changes and you have to manually fix it before continuing, which can be very disruptive during a live set.

I just use Tidal. Same music with neural mix, no pop ups and no interference.

I don’t think that would improve the live experience. If I activate a Neutral Mix effect and nothing happens, I find that just as irritating, maybe even more so, because you have no idea why it’s not working. Sure, everyone is different, but if I really want to use Spotify, whether alone or together with other sources, I would completely do without Neutral Mix, just to avoid that. Alternatively, there’s Tidal…

Hi @Chris_R,

Thanks for sharing your insight and perspective on this. I totally understand where you’re coming from.

I think both views can actually work well together. The idea of adding a simple “Don’t show again” checkbox would let everyone choose what fits their workflow best: you could keep the pop-up if you find it helpful, and I could disable it to avoid interruptions during a set. Best of both worlds!

My main concern isn’t the message itself but how disruptive it becomes when it pops up repeatedly and even resets effect mappings mid-performance. So an optional toggle (or at least making it less disruptive) would make everyone happy without removing any functionality or clarity.

Thanks mate!

That’s great to hear @daniel_curley! But since I already have Spotify Family for the kids as well, I’m not planning to switch to Tidal or subscribe to both.

Thanks for the feedback @DJ_Big_Blender, I’ve shared it with the devs for consideration.
