The new Neural Mix multi-track waveforms feature is very nice! I wouldn’t have thought that I needed it, but once it’s there, I really like it. However, every time I restart the program, the multi-track waveforms do not stay enabled by default. I have to manually turn them on each time, which is inconvenient. I think this needs a fix.
Additional
Talking about stems and Neural Mix, I noticed that after playing a song from Apple Music (streaming service), all effects on that channel that were previously assigned to one of the stems (e.g., vocal) are assigned to the whole track again after playing from Apple Music. Additionally, the Neural Mix multi-track waveforms are also reset after playing from Apple Music. I know this behavior has to do with licensing terms, but I would expect a fallback to the Neural settings when a local track is loaded again.
Hope this makes sense and is something that can be made better.
Also, I noted that the settings of all the effects assigned (e.g., the length of the ‘Vinyl Break’ effect or the length of a reverb) are unfortunately not being saved after you restart the program. They all go back to their default setting.
I don’t know if it is since the new version, but I think it’s better to also have these effect-settings consistent even when you fire up the software the next day. This would provide a better user experience, and it’s also more in line with the behavior of effects in other DJ programs.
In order not to lose sight of this bug (it closes within a month), I would still like to know which of the four points the development team is referring to.
When I know this, I can make a change request for that.
As a new sidenote about constant reset of the effects settings, I wanted to mention that the built-in instant effects are much more convenient for DJs because they come with pre-stored parameters and dry/wet settings, so there’s no need to save them.
On the other hand, this can also be a downside because sometimes you might want to tweak those instant effects, and as far as I know, that’s not possible.
I agree with this request. I too was blown away to how useful this neuralmix waveform is, especially if you mix with stems like I do. Having to turn it on every time (even if I don’t use Apple Music at all) is a bit frustrating. Please make it permanent!
To make things worst, there is no MIDI Mapping option to toggle it (that I found at least).
Since not saving the last state of the Neural Mix waveforms and Effect parameters is apparently (strangely enough) expected behavior, I would like to suggest adding the ability to save these states and manually recall them later.
As a user, it’s very frustrating and feels pointless to have to reconfigure settings like the Vinyl Brake effect to 4 beats or adjust the effect depth of Echo Out to the desired position every time I start Djay. This not only disrupts the workflow but also adds unnecessary steps for something that could be streamlined.
Hope Algoriddim would at least consider implementing a feature to save and recall these settings? It would make the software a bit more user-friendly and efficient.
Thanks for the additional thoughts. I have changed this topic from a Bug Report to a Suggestion and will share your ideas with the team. In the meantime, please upvote the Suggestion so we can gauge user demand.
I just wanted to add that this issue still persists in the latest version of djay Pro (5.4.4). The Neural Mix waveform view always resets after restarting the app, so we have to re-enable it every time. It would be great if djay could remember this setting between sessions. Definitely voting for this improvement — it would make a big difference in workflow efficiency.
@Slak_Jaw Any news on this? Every set I play or every time I open the app for the first time, I can’t help but think of Algoriddim .
I really don’t understand why they don’t include this as a user-defined configuration option once and for all. That way, besides avoiding the annoyance that anyone using Neural Mix in one way or another will experience, when ejecting a Spotify or Apple Music track everything would automatically return to the user’s preset configuration — avoiding more frustration.
Although more than frustration, it’s actually having to touch the waveform in the middle of a set… gives me chills, honestly .
I’m bumping this post so other members can see it and vote — it’s a feature that benefits everyone: if you want it, you enable it; if you don’t, you don’t. But right now, it’s all manual.
Hi @Albert_Maro, I don’t have any updates to share at this time, but when I do, I will post them here. Thanks for the additional input and feedback - I will pass this onto the devs.
