Hi guys, I have a question for everyone. Do you use the output headroom and if so, what are your experiences and what value did you set it to for your GiG?
Thank you guys

Hi @DJKamyR, I don’t use output headroom, but I’m very careful with monitoring and managing my levels at gigs.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot too. I’ve been using -6db but am going to give “none” a try this weekend. I run my Rane Performer through an external Mackie mixer also, not sure if this should sway me in a particular direction. My initial thoughts were to keep djay pro at -6db so it’s always in the green, and get extra volume from the mixer. My issue making me consider this is the headphone output of the Rane performer is noticeably softer (imo) than the ddj1000srt, which surprises me a lot. I know this will also boost the sound in the cans as well.
Hey DJKamyR! I’ve been using -6db but am thinking of switching to none. The reason I went down to -6db because I was using a ddjsr2 on internal mode. I was getting strange peaks in volume and turning down to -6db helped. I rarely use that unit and have a 1000srt and Rane Performer both used in external mode. I just kept it a -6b but I thought it sounded a little flat over the weekend and am considering jumping up to none. With autogain & audio limiter on, I don’t see why “none” wouldn’t work. I came over from Serato, and they don’t have this option. I’d like to know which is closer to serato dj pro default.
Do you know which output headroom is closer to serato dj pro default?
Hi @jmoak311, sorry I do not.
Yes, the default by serato is -9db.
Interesting! I wouldn’t have guessed. Think I’ll stick with -6b and crank the gains!
I couldn’t help but notice with output headroom set to “none,” the channel meters were peaking similar to sdj pro. Touching the red once in a while. On -6db they barely hit the yellow. Never had any issues with sdj pro nor djay pro with clipping etc. here is “none.” They need a -3 db! Ha
Here is -6db
This is only supposed to be a protective measure and to bring out the better sound when you mix in a lot of effects, that’s the definition of algoriddim and serato.
I remember when I connected my Flx10 to Serato, the default setting was -9 dB. The salesperson at the music store also recommended that I not change the value, otherwise it would blow my sound system away.
But I got it at -6db and this is perfect for me
I couldn’t help but notice the meters look similar when set to “none” but I can’t confirm this is apples to apples comparison.
Where did you see -9db for serato? I can’t find any setting similar to output headroom in sdjpro.
