Playback freezes for a half-of-a-second regularly frequently today, I really can’t figure it out. Help!
Djay Pro 5.2.5
Macbook Pro (2023, M3)
running macOS Sequoia 15.1.1
Pioneer Serato DDJ-SR2
Restarted laptop.
Updated the drivers.
Closed out all other applications.
Still issue persists.
I thought, momentarily, I might have solved it finally closing out my Notion.app, which I prefer to keep running as my notes app, but then I unplugged the computer briefly (fully charged) and it glitched again even with literally nothing other than djay pro and finder open.
Through these tests I’m using all local files to reduce variables.
Hey thanks, I just went through the steps you said and immediately I had another playback interruption. Any thoughts?
I ran that command both from the ~/Music/djay folder as well as from ~/
I wasn’t 100% sure what you meant RE icloud enabled, i went into icloud settings and saw the toggle was on. My icloud is way over full and it says “Saving is paused” FWIW
I tried restarting after encountering the error again (I don’t suppose it would rewrite the setting you mention by opening djay pro without the restart?)
Man I even tried emptying out my iCloud, running the code again, restarting, now I’m playing a couple of local tracks and another interruption. Bummer!
Hi @Slak_Jaw no luck, I’m a few tracks in, wifi off from before opening djay pro, and i got another playback interruption.
FWIW, the left channel fader of my deck gives me funny behaviour when i put it up to 10, I see on the program the volume wiggles around a bit (a somewhat recent development, but I hadn’t previously experienced it alongside the interruptions over the last couple of weeks, not playing too often…), anyways I figure something mechanical is off about that, but given we’re not solving the interruptions quickly I thought I’d mention on the off chance something about the dj controller hardware might have anything to do with this?
Thanks for checking @coopchange. Can you please retest without your controller connected? Just play some tracks within djay and no hardware connected.
I suspect it is an issue with your controller or with your USB cable. Also, can you confirm that your Mac is connected to power using your original Apple charger? Is your controller also connected to power or are you running it off USB bus power from the laptop?
Mac is connected to power using original Apple charger basically (different power cable, but same brick/thunderbolt as it came with).
Running the deck off the laptop power. I have, with my prior macbook, used the j5create (see below) to plug in the deck and a powered usb-c into the same usb hub/dongle. Now I’m using the thunderbolt (but still have that usb-c power cable fwiw)
I’ll test as you say, but quick check – would it matter which side of the macbook I was plugging in the USB cable? I recently got one of those tiny USB-A to USB-C adaptors and had been using it in a usb-c on the thunderbolt-side of the mac, but today I’ve been running the deck/adaptor (usb-a to usb-c) into the opposite side of the computer as the side the power comes in. Would that potentially matter? I have an old j5create adaptor that I used to use with my prior macbook that i might try as well, but I recall the adaptor working fine in the recent month…
I’ll try your test but I’ve been playing a lot without the controller at least as of 2 maybe 3 days ago tops and haven’t ever heard playback interruption there, so I think we’re closing in (on controller or usb connection). Thanks for the continued support @Slak_Jaw
Okay this is likely your problem @coopchange. Cables and adapters can start to fail causing issues like you’re describing. Interference can sometimes be an issue as well with cheap, unshielded cables. Ideally, you’ll want to connect your controller directly to your Mac with a high quality cable and no adapters. So a USB-C to B cable with dual ferrites.
A lot of adapters are very cheaply built. If you’re going to use one, then it’s best to get a reputable USB-C hub with pass through power. U Green and Baseus are typically good choices. For cables, I can personally recommend the Chroma Cables from DJ TechTools. For now, I would try to simplify your connection by removing adapters if possible and trying a different cable.
Also connect your controller to power with its original adapter so it’s not trying to pull from the USB cable and port. It’s possible the controller is not getting enough power through the cable/adapter combo you’re using.
If that doesn’t work, you could also try connecting to a different USB port on your laptop. I’ve had these fail on me in the past as well.
Has been issues with multiple macbook models, where charging through the different usb-c caused problems. I’v personally only observed it in an intel macbook, but its worth a try to test if there is a difference . . .
I used an external power source for the controller, but I also simultaneously plugged in through a usb hub that i imagine is less prone to noise, plugged it in on the powered side of the laptop, and used a different usb cable (though i think the usb cable i’d been using was/is probably fine)
Thanks again for the support! I might comment back in here if and as I walk back some of those variables and isolate the true solution; it’d be nice to occasionally run without the external power source, be more flexible with the setup, so we’ll see and if that helps i can let you know if i know more about the true cause.
