Playing via USB stick

I want to use djay pro on another computer with all the music and playlist i created but don’t want to copy all the music files to the other computer. I have all the files on a usb stick. The problem is that the usb starts with D:\ and i need to put the files in same folder path as it was in the original computer in order for the playlist to work. Is there a way to do that?
thanks

Hi @dimension7, can you please share the original path for you music files?

You can assign a fixed drive letter (e.g. D:) to the USB disk in Windows Disk Management so that it will be consistent every time you insert it.

  1. Insert your USB drive, then right-click “This PC” > “Manage” > “Disk Management”.
  2. Locate your USB drive, right click and select “Change drive letter and path”.
  3. Select a fixed drive letter (e.g. D:) and click “OK”.
  4. This way, every time you plug in your USB drive, it will be assigned to drive D: without change, and Djay Pro will recognize the music file paths properly.

The path on the original computer is C:\Users\ASUS\Desktop\music
I tried what you suggested but its not possible to change the drive letter from D to C because there is already C drive.

I use DjayPRO on 3 computers with Windows and one pendrive - there is no problem with displaying playlists - on each computer I insert the medium and it receives its unique symbol, e.g. D: or E:, the program has the medium indicated by AddFolder and nothing changes and does not interfere with the use of the CuePoints.

That is because you originally created the playlists with the pendrive files. I created the playlists from the files in my desktop. In the other computer when i try to play track from the playlist it says “track not available” because it looks for the file in the original path when it was added to the playlist. I can create similar path in the other computer and it will work but i don’t have enough available space so i want to use pendrive.

Hi @dimension7, I spoke with our engineering team regarding this. At the moment they think the only way this could work is if you always used the files off the USB stick. i.e. every computer using D:\.
Assuming you are using My Collection, something like this might work:

  1. Make sure you have a backup of the djaymedialibrary database (https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014912131-Where-does-djay-Pro-store-cue-points-and-other-metadata)
  2. Copy the audio files to the USB stick.
  3. Drop the folder contain all the audio files on D:\ into My Collection → Music playlist. This should relink all the tracks to use the new location.

Then when you copy your media library to the other machines they should all be able to access the files. Assuming Windows assigns D:\ drive to the USB on all the computers.

Thanks a lot. That is the solution I was lookink for.I didn’t know you can relink this way.

You’re welcome @dimension7. Glad that worked!
