Your question:
so i bluetooth dj to my jbl partybox ultimates. can I connected headphones to my laptop to precue? I have tried and i can get it to work

Hi @joccili, yes, this is possible on macOS.

  1. Connect and pair your Bluetooth speaker to you Mac
  2. Connect your wired headphones to the headphone socket of you Mac
  3. Launch djay
  4. Navigate to the djay Settings>Devices.
  5. Select your Bluetooth speaker from the drop down menu for Main Output
  6. Select External Headphones in the drop down menu for Pre-Cueing
  7. Double check that the volume is turn up for your headphones in the Headphone settings in the top left menu of djay.

do i need to hit split cue? I thought when i had the headphone symbol selected near the volume faders (shines blue) that meant only my headphones would play the sound… but it is playing on both my blue tooth speaker and headphones. please help

@joccili no, do not enable split cue. This is a different setting when using a splitter cable which you are not.

Please make sure that the Channel Fader OR Crossfader is closed for the Deck that you only want playing through the headphones.

Also, makes sure the Cue/Mix slider is all the way over to Cue.

I see, do i drag the fader over some to hear the song still? when i do yes i now hear it in my headphones but it starts to apply the neural effects to the song that is playing out of the bluetooth speaker even though people cant hear the other song…im guessing when im ready i increase the volume of the other track that is via the headphones also?

further, yes the song im wanting to preview i can only hear in my headphones but the slider (neural mix vocal sustain) is applying its effect to the song people are hearing. so the beat is somewhat cutting out for the song being heard by others if that helps explain

Please note that you will want to mix with the Channel Faders OR the Crossfader. Not both at the same time. From your description, it sounds like you are using both. It sounds like you want to use the Crossfader FX (Neural Mix Vocal Sustain) for your transition. If so, then you should mix with the Crossfader ONLY and have both Channel Faders set to the same level (normally full). Please try this and report back. I hope that helps!

i attached a screenshot. so how do i preview the song on the left without moving the cross fader over? when i do move it over i hear with the left fader channel (volume) all the way down i only hear it in my headphones but the crossfader fx apply to the song playing already

It should work with how you have it setup in the screenshot. Try turning Crossfader FX OFF or selecting a non-Neural Mix FX option.

when i do that, now the beats do not line up and the track that is being precued does not start playing when i move the fader, it starts to mess up a few things. have you tried pre cueing the way i am describing? please test it out and let me know how i can effectively do this when you can. screenshots helps a lot, thank you

Hi @joccili, I tested this several times with a Bluetooth speaker connected wirelessly and wired headphones connected to the MacBook headphone socket. It works exactly as expected and described above. Please note, however, that pre-cueing in the headphones is not currently supported with the Neural Mix Crossfader FX transition types. You will need to select a different transition type if you want to be able to hear the pre-cued track in your headphones while using CFX. I hope that helps!

okay so i tried it w a non neural mix transition and the same thing is happening as you can see. the song on the right that is playing is slwoing down and reverbed, as im trying to pre cue

@joccili,

  1. Select the Fade, Filter or EQ Crossfader FX types if you want a simple crossfade with no reverb.
  2. Disable Tempo Blend if you do not want the track to slow down during the transition.

so there’s no way to pre cue w an authentic blend without it playing out loud? doing all of that defeats the purpose and adds additional steps of turning things off or using the transitions i don’t want to preview. it’s not a good way to test it out

Pre-cueing is meant for previewing the incoming song and getting it beat matched, phrase matched and maybe key matched with the existing song. It is not meant for previewing the actual transition from one song to another. You will need to practice your transitions in advance of a live situation so you know how you want to perform them.
