Pre-cue without splitter or controller?

Hi, I’m a beginner who just DJs the odd party for friends. I did a party last night on an iPad with a splitter and Apple Music and the quality wasn’t good.

Next time I’m planning to use Tidal with my MacBook Pro (M1 chip) which has 2 USB-C ports. I’m wondering if the splitter (which I guess outputs in mono) is responsible for the poor quality? Can I just use the second USB-C port for pre-cueing? Or do I need a controller?

Get an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter.

  • this will give you 2 headphone jacks
  • one for main audio and the other for pre-cueing/headphones
  • it should sound better than the splitter cable
