Prevent background audio auto-pausing when opening djay

On iOS, often times at events, I will have background music playing from another source, let’s say for example Apple Music. Then when I’m ready to start mixing, I will open DJay, and Apple Music’s audio will pause abruptly, making it awkward lol.

Is this just an unfortunate limitation of iOS? Or is there a way to make it so any background audio will keep playing after DJay opens, all the way until we actually start playing a track in DJay?

Thanks!

I think this may be an iOS limitation, but I will pass your suggestion onto our devs for consideration. In the meantime, why not play Apple Music from within djay instead of externally? You can put an Apple Music playlist into Automix then take over manual mixing when you are ready.

Thank you @Slak_Jaw. This is a great idea that I will start trying out, but another thing to consider is is that Apple Music and Spotify don’t allow downloads within DJay, and I do like having playlists downloaded at events just in case I’m at a no-Wifi no-data location. It’s not likely, but it would still be nice if the DJay app didn’t pause audio when opening, if possible. Thank you!

You’re welcome @djmikelujan. In that case, you might also want to consider Beatport or Beatsource as their Professional subscriptions include a 1,000 song Offline Locker that works inside of djay.

I generally recommend using an external mixer, and in this case, I would probably connect a separate device for this purpose, such as a smartphone or similar. This way, the devices can be controlled completely independently of each other, and you also have a backup if the main device (laptop, controller, etc.) fails.

Technically, this is a good solution, but unfortunately Beatsource is not usually a good choice outside the English-speaking music market. Furthermore, Beatsource, like Beatport, is relatively expensive in the version with the offline locker, which makes it unattractive for many people. It would be nice if mainstream providers such as Tidal, which also has its own DJ tariff, would finally offer something like this - but I guess we’ll have to wait a while longer. :frowning:

Good suggestions regarding the external mixer @Chris_R - I often use one of these as well.
Yeah, I wish all service providers would offer offline lockers for DJ software use.
