Problem with Mixon 8 Pro

  • Device model *ipad 9 gen. *:
  • Version of operating system (iPadOS 18.1.1.):
  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.2.5):
  • Hardware/controllers used *(e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 firware 5339

I have an issue with my Reloop Mixon 8 Pro console when using djay Pro AI. During a backspin, the jog wheel on the console rotates correctly, but in djay Pro, the graphical representation slows down, then speeds up again, and finally syncs with the physical jog movement. In comparison, the same backspin works perfectly in Serato DJ Pro, with everything fully synchronized.

Additionally, I noticed a difference in the behavior of the Channel Volume LED bar. In djay Pro, the LED bar barely moves, while in Serato DJ Pro, it reacts dynamically and works across the full range. Has anyone experienced a similar issue, and is there a solution for this?

Hi @Arkadiusz, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue - this is very helpful!

  1. How exactly are you connecting your iPad to the Mixon 8?
    a. For example are you using a Genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 to Camera Adapter?
    b. Are you using your original Apple supplied Lightning to USB-C cable?
    c. Are you connecting to the USB-C socket on the Mixon 8 or the USB-B socket?
  2. When connected to the Mixon 8, is your iPad charging normally or running off internal battery?
  3. Can you please also try to capture a short video of the issues, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Thanks!
  4. In the djay Settings>MIDI Devices>MIDI DEVICES>Reloop Mixon 8 Pro, can you confirm if you are using the Built-in mapping or a custom edit?
  5. What device are you running Serato on for your comparison? I’m guessing a Mac?

Hi,
Thank you for taking an interest in my issue. Let me answer your questions:

  1. While troubleshooting the problem, I connected the Mixon using the original Lightning-USB-C cable provided with the iPad. I also tested the USB cable included with the Mixon, connecting it via the original Apple Lightning adapter. I tested these setups in both USB-B and USB-C ports.

  2. When I use the original Lightning-USB-C cable in the USB-C port, the iPad charges properly.

  3. Yes, I will try to record a video showing the issue and share it with you.

  4. I am using the built-in MIDI mapping and haven’t changed anything.

  5. You’re right, I also tested it on a Mac. Are you a mind reader?:+1:t2:

You’re welcome @Arkadiusz. Thanks for the additional info. Since you also have a Mac, can you please test djay Pro on your Mac with the Mixon 8 to see if you get the same results as on your iPad? Please also share specific details about your Mac and macOS version.

Nothing has changed on the Mac. The same problem occurs as on the iPad.
Mac Retina 4K 21.5-inch Late 2017
macOS 12.7.6

Okay, thanks for confirming @Arkadiusz. Once I have your video, I’ll need to pass this onto our engineering team to see if they can replicate the issue and offer any suggestions. Unfortunately, my Mixon 8 is currently in storage so I can’t check it myself.

Hi

The first video illustrates my problem on the iPad: backspins with interruptions, lacking smoothness. Additionally, the second video shows how, during jog wheel rotation, there is a sudden switch between scratch and scratch mode . My question is whether this behavior is normal or if something is wrong.

The third video demonstrates the same issue with djay on a Mac: the problem remains identical. In the fourth video, you can see how everything works flawlessly in Serato without any issues.

Additionally, there are two more videos comparing the difference in the behavior of the Channel Volume LED bar between djay and Serato. In Serato, the indicator works dynamically, while in djay it barely moves.

Thanks for the videos and additional info @Arkadiusz. This is very helpful! I have forwarded this to the engineering team to see if they can reproduce the issue and offer any suggestions. I’ll report back here when I have news. Thanks!

Thank you for your response. I hope you’ll be able to resolve my issue. I’ll be waiting for your reply.
Best regards.

Hi again @Arkadiusz,

  1. Can you please double check that you are not accidentally using a modified version of the built-in MIDI mapping?
  2. Also, can you please record another video that shows the Mixon 8 level meters and the onscreen djay level meters at the same time? We think you probably have different Headroom settings in djay that in Serato. Thanks!

Hello and welcome!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to look into my issue.

Answer to the first question: At the moment, I have made a few adjustments to the FX knobs, but when I recorded the video showing how poorly the backspin works, there were no changes made to the MIDI mapping at that time.

Regarding the second question: I can do that, but after reading your message, I checked the sound settings and found the Output Headroom option. Is this the setting you were referring to? Currently, it is set to none. What should the Output Headroom settings be?

Hi @Arkadiusz, thanks for the reply. Can you please try switching back to the built-in mapping and retesting? You can set the output headroom to whatever value you prefer. I’d say, start low, test the results, then increase as needed to get the result you prefer.

How can I reset the MIDI settings to restore the factory defaults?

Just select the built-in mapping at the top of the list instead of your custom one.

I followed your suggestion, but nothing has changed regarding the incorrect behavior with the backspin. What do you think about this?

Thanks for the update @Arkadiusz. Our engineering team is reviewing the backspin behaviour. In the meantime, can you please record a video with the hardware and onscreen level meters visible? Thanks.

Hi @Arkadiusz, I’m following up on my reply from a week ago. Have you had a chance to record a video as requested above? Thanks!

Hi. Thank you so much for continuing to work on my issue. I haven’t done it yet because I’m traveling and don’t have access to my Mixon. Once I get back home, I’ll make a video and share it.
Best regards,

You’re welcome @Arkadiusz. Sounds good. I’ll keep this topic open and wait for your video…
