Protect Deck issue with custom mapping

  • Device model Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2019 A2141 | i9-9880H 2.3GHz 64GB RAM 1TB SSD
  • Using a 2TB portable external SSD drive for all music
  • Version of operating system *Sequoia 15.3
  • Version of djay *5.6 & 5.6.1
  • Hardware/controllers used *DDJ SX2

I have noticed that if I toggle between 2 deck and 4 deck view (these 2 options have been mapped to 2 buttons on my DDJ SX2) The protect deck is disabled even if its checked in the DJay Pro settings.

that means if I load a song onto a currently playing deck, the current song will be ejected and the new song will load, which is not what you want if you were playing live.

My workaround and fix is to just toggle 2 deck and 4 deck view mode a few times and this will fix it.

protect library is activated again,

This could be a bug, I’m not sure…. thanks

Hi @eecy_cee,

  1. Does this only happen when you toggle 2/4 Deck Mode and try to load songs via your SX2?
  2. Does this happen with all 4 Decks or just with one particular deck?
  3. I tested this with a different DJ controller on macOS and could not reproduce it as you’ve described on Deck 1, 2, 3 or 4 while switching between 2 Deck and 4 Deck Modes via MIDI.
  4. Can you please share a short video of the issue to make sure I’m not missing something? Thanks!

Hi buddy, I’ve tried as well and can’t reproduce but you did inspire me to midi map this feature for my work flow :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::fire::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I came across this issue by accident, I was remapping my Accapella, Rythem, Bass and drum stems to Pause as mentioned in my other thread, I also pushed a few buttons while in Midi window just to remind me what the midi mappings was, I did push a few buttons including 2 deck and 4 deck view, that was fine, then all of a sudden I was able to load songs onto decks that was currently playing,

I checked the DJay Pro settings and “protect deck” was still checked, I unchecked it and re-checked it, it still wasn’t working, I even closed DJay pro and restarted my Mac, the problem was still there,

a bit confused, but I know this issue happened because I did something 5 mins ago, so I went through and tried to push buttons on my DDJ SX2 that I had pushed before in the same sequence, I tried to load songs onto a playing deck to see if the protect deck issue was fixed, but it wasn’t,

when I did come across my 2 mapped buttons (2 deck and 4 deck view) I pushed 2 deck button first then 4 deck view button, I toggled both buttons a few times,

Then I tried to load a track onto a playing deck and it worked, I got the pop up that says this deck is protected, so my issue was fixed,

I tested it out a few times to make sure protect deck was working and it did.

I closed off DJay pro straight away and was just happy that I fixed the issue. I didnt want to mess it up again

I don’t know if its the sequence of how I’ve mapped my DDJ SX2, including 2 deck and 4 deck view, That, I can be the only one that can reproduce this issue :person_shrugging:

but this post can be for someone that has the same issue, hopefully this will help them,

Slak_Jaw I can send you my mapping file if you want let me know,

Glad to hear Dysfunk_DJ I’m always mapping things just to make my workflow smoother when I play live, DJay Pro to my knowledge has more options to map compared to any other DJ softwares out there, It has made my DJ life way easier and less stressful,

I chose the SX2 cause you have a lot more buttons to map compared to newer controllers that has less buttons and knobs,

Over 10 years with my SX2 its still going strong, I bought it brand new.

Hi @eecy_cee, this definitely sounds like an issue with your custom mapping. I don’t have access to an SX2 so I won’t be able to view or test your MIDI mapping. As a test, you could make a new edit of the (built-in) mapping and only add the Deck 2 and Deck 4 view mode mappings.
