Rane Performer EQ Knob Issues And More.

Device : Macbook pro M3 14” Nov 2023
OS : Sonoma 14.6.1
Djay : Latest
Hardware : Rane Performer

Anyone use the Rane Performer? I cant seem to get the updater to recognize the Rane plugged in to update the firmware updater. It stays as No Rane Performer device was found. The Performer is on and lit up but not recognized.

I know its not a Djay issue. I downloaded drivers. Just seeing if anyones has had the same problem. Not even showing in midi devices in mac settings.

Is it a Sonoma 14.6.1 issue?

Hi @MrG, make sure you connect the Rane directly to your computer via USB cable. Do not use a hub or any adapters.

Yeah im directly plugged in via usb cable. Im beginning to think its not compatible with sonoma 14.6.1

Ok i kind of got it working now. Went through odd steps to get it semi going.

I have questions though.

Do i run it on internal or external mode?

The eq knobs do not move on the screen.

They do show in the midi section to map, they react within the list showing its a function.

Thats as far as i got tonight. Will check out everything else tomorrow.

Hi @MrG, glad you got it working. I’m pretty sure the RANE Performer is an external mixer device like the RANE Four. When used in External Mixer Mode the onscreen mixer controls will not react to the hardware.

Thanks @Slak_Jaw ! Yeah so knobs def not onscreen. Which is fine, they still work. Heres someother issues I found just to add.

Crossfader contour doesnt work and in the menu settings it doesnt change while twisting the knob on front of controller. In midi mapping, twisting that knob has no type of action to it.

No Automix which is due to being set in external mode. Just in case anyones wondering before they make the purchase.

Tomorrow i will retest the shift function on certain buttons. There was a few that didnt respond. But ill recheck.

So far everything else is working very well!

No problem @Slak_Jaw ! Just doing my little part to help the Djay community.

So one other thing to add is changing display on jogwheels using shift + beat jump forwardor backwards doesnt work either.

Thats pretty much everything I can find.

Djay works well with the Performer :metal:t4::sunglasses::metal:t4:

Found another issue. The sampler knob on the performer doesnt move the onscreen volume meter. It does work but visually on the mac screen it doesnt.

The censor button works but cant be midi mapped to anything other than censor function.

Any clue if these will be fixed @Slak_Jaw ?

So in the midi mapping menu, the sampler knob isnt detected at all. It works fine but i wish it were functioning on the mac screen.

Ah ok I see,
The Rane One has a few buttons/dials that aren’t detected as well.
On a similar note, Before the official mapping for the Denon Prime Go, Someone created an unofficial map where certain buttons worked,
On the official map however, the same buttons don’t have any midi command.

Yeah youre right just like the rane one. Kind of a bummer cause the ones that arent detected would make good midi mapping functions but being not recognized they end up useless. Yeah them official maps seem to be the ones with missing commands.

The Performer is pretty legit though. Big upgrade from my Rane One.

Hi Algoriddim developers, do you know that VDJ and Serato has a complete integration and works perfect with Rane Performer, but Djay Pro ai have many issues for this gear?

Please, I love your SW but it is frustrating to use Djay Pro if it starts showing you the wave, the song information and other parameters in LCD screen on the Performer and suddenly the screen stops to work and no info is showed on it… Are you planning to fix all the issues with Rane Performer?

@Slak_Jaw Will this issue be fixed? The EQ knobs, channel volume faders, and gain controls are not responding on the screen…

Hi @hardbea7, the Performer is an External Mixer device. EQs, Channel Faders and Gains are handled inside the hardware not inside djay. If this hardware doesn’t also send MIDI messages for these controls, it is expected behaviour that djay’s onscreen controls don’t respond to what the hardware is doing. I don’t believe there is anything to be fixed here.

how is Djay failed do this? can it be switch to internal mixer?

This device must be used in External Mode only.

I do not have access to this device to confirm, but it is possible that it also sends MIDI messages for the EQs, Channel Faders and Gain Knobs. Are you using the (built-in) MIDI Mapping or a custom edit? You could try mapping them using the MIDI Learn Tool. This would allow the onscreen controls to follow the External Mixer controls.

Eq, Faders Midi mapping worked.

Gain, Master volume knobs doesn’t show in the custom edit…

Excellent! The Gain and Master Levels probably don’t send MIDI then. This is pretty normal. Glad to hear that worked for thw EQs and Channel Faders though!
