Re-linked files showing old bitrate

I deleted a bunch of 320 kbps MP3 files from my drive to replace them with higher-quality M4A versions. The new tracks share the same filenames, apart from the extension.

The old files are unavailable in DJAY and give the error "could not load track OSStatus error -54) when I try to load them - makes sense, they don’t exist anymore.

However, when I try to relink the missing files, DJAY reports that “there are no missing files in your library”.

Is this a bug? If a file is deleted, yet it’s replaced with a newer version that shares the same tags/same filename (apart from the extension), DJAY still thinks it exists?

Ok so I figured it out but it does present a new problem.

The files still existed in DJAY because they were in the trash bin on MacOS…I discovered this when I clicked on “show in finder” and it took me to the bin. I would suggest a fix is put in place that if the track exists in the trash then it’s still marked as missing and can be deleted/relinked.

Onto the next problem…I relinked the files to their new M4A versions. I re-analyzed, all good, however the bit rate is still showing as 320 kbps when the files are much higher than that, around 800 kbps to 1050kbps.

Is this a bug also? If, a file in re-linked then new meta data should be taken from the file and reflected correctly in the media library…?

By the way, if you’re wondering why I re-linked, it’s because the files I replaced exist in about 20-odd different playlists and I didn’t to have to spend the rest of the day putting them back in the playlists. I used to have tons of smart playlists on rekordbox and this wouldn’t normally be a problem except smart lists take forever to display in DJAY on my M1 Macbook Air. Turning them into regular lists makes navigating much easier.

leme just say, u r f’d
reason i say so is:

  1. i have done such (replace lower quality mp4 files with higher quality mp4 ones (same filename, same extension) - and do you know what happened?? I ended up having, in my collection, same track in duplicate or triplicate. For example; i have “Sean Paul - Give it Up to Me” 3 times, each in it’s own separate playlist(s) but all pointing to same file in finder! No remedy I have found so far
  2. if i try to re-cue or re-analyse such files, i found out the hard way djay would load serato cues , and disregard the new set djay cues, —or in some instances load djay cues and disregard serato cues.

Hi @discoian, thanks for the suggestion - good idea. I will share this with the dev team.

Do you still have the old files and new files available? If so, can you please upload some example files of both versions to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the files here? Our engineering team would like to try to reproduce this issue on their setup. Thanks!

Hi @discoian, I’m just following up on my question from a week ago.

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!

Hi sorry, what I ended up doing was deleting the files, removing them from the library and then re-adding them and that solved it. If I get time I will try to reproduce and supply the info you asked for.

Many thanks!

Okay, no problem. Thanks for the update @discoian
