I manage my CD ripped lossless music library on another machine running Mojave & latest version of iTunes. The library is stored on an external drive so that when I DJ, I can just take the drive with me. Traktor has a feature to specifically indicate the location of the Library XML file which allows me to select this old library on this new system, regardless of being updated to an Apple Music library or not.
Is there a way I can do this in djay Pro?
I still want to continue collecting my library on Mojave + iTunes on that older machine due to iTunes just being a superior jukebox software compared to Music.app
Hi @minimum, I don’t have access to a Mac at the moment to check, but you can do this on Windows so I think it’s possible on Mac as well. Try following these steps:
Enable iTunes Library Sharing:
a. Open iTunes on your Mac.
b. Navigate to Preferences.
c. Click on the Advanced tab.
d. Check the box labeled “Share iTunes Library XML with other applications”.
e. Click OK to apply the changes.
Set the iTunes Library Location in djay:
a. Open djay Pro.
b. Navigate to the djay Settings>Library>iTunes.
d. Click on “Select iTunes Library”.
e. Navigate to the location of your iTunes Library XML file on the external drive.
f. Select the “iTunes Music Library.xml” file and click Open.
Note: Ensure that the external drive is connected to your Mac before launching djay to maintain access to your music library.
Hi @minimum, sorry for the delayed reply. I wanted to check in with our engineering team before responding further. Unfortunately, this is not supported on macOS. I think the only other option would be to import your library into the macOS Apple Music app. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
This is so unfortunate. In my situation, the old Mac with Mojave is the machine with loads of storage and the audio collection in terabytes, while the MacBook only has 512 GB total. Wish I could I just plug in the external drive and load the library up, without upgrading and breaking compatibility with iTunes.
