Reading Serato tags. A way to transfer from Virtual DJ to DJay Pro

Hello everyone. I’m a DJ and a Windows user, and I mainly work with Virtual DJ and Algoriddim DJay Pro. I also have some iPads and iPhones on which I use DJay.

All my song library (local) is in MP3 format, and I have curated and worked on it (tags, hotcues, loops, etc.) for several years with Virtual DJ (an excellent library manager).

After many tests and frustrations, I have created a program that allows me to save Virtual DJ’s hotcues and loops information in Serato format into the tags of the MP3 files. This means that both Serato and Algoriddim DJay Pro can read that information.

It’s the best way I have found to transfer my work from Virtual DJ to DJay Pro.

I have encountered a problem that I’d like to share with you in hopes that you can fix it. It’s not very important, but it is a bit inconvenient.

DJay Pro reads the hotcues and loops information from MP3 files correctly, except when the file name (only the file name, not the internal tags) contains non-English characters, such as accents or the letter ñ. I don’t know why this happens; Serato works perfectly fine without any issues. I’m Spanish, and this forces me to change the names of many files. It would be great if you could fix this.

Another issue, at least on the iPads, is that DJay only reads the Serato hotcues and loops information the first time it encounters an MP3 file. After that, even if you change that information, delete the database, or reinstall the program, it won’t read it again. It isn’t possible to update it. It would be very useful to have the option to force the reading of this information again.

That’s all. Thank you for such a great program, and please, show a little more love to Windows, as we feel a bit abandoned.

Best regards.

Hi @Chirro_Peres, thanks for the careful explanation of your issue and the details about your setup. I’ve passed this onto our engineering team to see if they have any suggestions. I’ll let you know when I hear back. Thanks!

Hi again @Chirro_Peres,

This will be fixed in the upcoming djay 5.3. We do not have an official release date for this yet, but I’ll let you know when it is ready.

Another issue, at least on the iPads, is that DJay only reads the Serato hotcues and loops information the first time it encounters an MP3 file.

This is by design as djay Cue Points take precedence. I hope that helps!

– Ok, thank you

– I understand, but to have the option of rereading this, if you need, would be great

You’re welcome @Chirro_Peres. I’ll let the team know.

Hi @Chirro_Peres, I’m happy to report that this has been addressed in djay 5.3.

For the full 5.3 release notes, please refer to the topic below. Thanks!
