The above devices appear as External Mixer Mode devices.
How does one record a mix when these controller’s are appearing in External Mixer Mode?
(I can understand with the XDJ unit’s as they allow a usb to be inserted and you can record onto the usb. The other units are controllers and would record internally either in Rekordbox or Serato whichever is supported without the need for an external device to record a mix.)
I have recently played on an XDJ RX3 and XDJ XZ and had to use the usb to record my mix, because I could not get it to record in Djay Pro.
The DDJ1000SRT is a bit of an unusual device. If you say internal recording works on Serato then there’s a chance the same will be true with djay. however, since this hardware was designed specifically for Serato, they could have some proprietary things happening under the hood.
It appears I would need to install a app to do the return back in Djay Pro as it doesn’t have such currently as far as I can see when selecting the options for “Record In”.
I am 100% certain you are wrong about this. I have recorded inside djay pro recording interface while connected and performing on both the Rane Performer and DDJ REV7! Last night I recorded on a Rane 70 setup. Ws i just lucky? I didn’t do anything - nothing in djay, no other cables except the USB!
Contrary to this, I only had issue with an internal mixer mode device (Hercules T7) which was ommitting out the mic sound from the mix recording.
@Armigo I have requested a list from @Slak_Jaw for all devices that are treated as External Mixer Mode devices. Hence the list provided. I have not managed to play on all those devices.
When I connected Djay Pro to the XDJ-XZ and XDJ-RX3 it appeared as an external mixer mode device and I was unable to record my mix. I had to insert a USB into the device and had to use the built in record to usb feature.
I do not own any of the devices on the list. My comment with reference to DDDJ1000SRT was with respect to when I used it previously with Serato. I have not been able to use it with Djay Pro as yet.
Hence why I am posting to ask how do people record when these devices appear as External Mixer Mode devices.
If you have feedback that the Rane Performer and DDJ Rev7 are not treated as External Mixer Mode devices then it can be removed from the list.
With respect to you being lucky with the Rane 70 setup I do not think you were lucky I think you just did not read the post clearly the Rane 70 was not on the list. Neither is the Hercules T7 - does the T7 appear as an external mixer device in Djay Pro?
I hope the above is specific enough and provides more clarity.
No, not my point. Those are external mode devices. So is my Rane 70, AND, like I said, I record on it. Guess what I was saying is that, external mode devices do not necessarily mean no recording possible. Was the record button in djay greyed out? Or did it just record total silence??
To be precise, I have not had problems reocrding in djay connected to DDj800, DDJ1000(RB), Rane 70, Rane Perormer, Rane One, DDj SZ, essentially every device in the clubs I go to, except when I want to record the MC on the mic that’s when I had an issue with the T7. If you check my list, you will find majority are ext mixer mode devices too
I agree and that was my point. Hence OP needs to narrow down the list. Not all Ext mixer mode devices refuse recording. 3 items on his list has recored in my case…you quoted 2 of them. Just needed that out of the list
I think you missed the point of External Mixer Mode and took it literal to your gear being external. There are two options within Djay Audio settings where these devices appear it can either appear in Internal or External.
When connecting the XDJ-XZ and XDJ-RX3 they appear under this section and not in the internal section. So when recording the audio it’s completely silent. @PKtheDJ suggested looping the audio back in but Djay does not have a feature for that like Virtual DJ I am looking into an app called Loopback Audio.
@GECHO on my timetable this weekend I’ll be at the club with Rane Performer setup - I do a recording and share. If I recall well, there was nothing I did other than hit “Record”
I know mixer modes in djay - and my rane also apears “External” when I am recording (I didn’t select “internal” to allow recording. I think the word “ONLY” as stressed by Slaw makes sense (maybe the rane 70 is both, but I use it in external mode)
So I just got an update after playing with the RANE Performer. It picks up the mixer as an external mixer but it somehow allows the audio to be recorded. Please check the Recording Input section it uses Channel 5-6.
Anyway @Slak_Jaw I think the unofficial list needs to be updated.
