Refresh MP3 tags in My Collection?

How do I refresh metadata tags (mp3 info) on any file / playlist in DJAY on MacOS?

(without having to remove every song and re-add it)

Whenever I edit id3 tags, i just quit/relaunch djay n the tracks data gets updated

@Armigo Are your songs in MyCollection?

I find that DJAY reads the updated meta data from LocalMusic (itunes/Music) but not reliably from MyCollection.

@rishi yes my songs are in MyCollection. Oh I see your issue now. Nope metadata won’t update in djay for LocalMusic untill Music app has first updated itself (talking from experience of 3 yrs back). See below

About your point on LocalMusic - about 3years back I used to have all my tracks imported into Music, and I organised my playlists in Music, so I used to use LocalMusic as my library source for djay.
At that time I had this experience:
Editing metadata in kid3 or mp3Tag would not show in djay, unless I make Music app update the edited metadata. AND Music app doesn’t auto-update until I either play the edited tracks in Music first, or I edit at least 1 irrelevant metadata inside Music (such as “grouping”), hence forcing Music to update all tracks metadata. Then djay will read the update from Music
This is of course is tedious especially if multiple tracks are involved, so what I used to do was:
Open Music, Select ALL Songs, Select ALL again (Ctrl+A), Right-click, Get info, OK, then edit Grouping by just typing a dash (-) on it.Then OK

After doing this, all metadata shows in djay

Thanks for the response and explanation.

In this case the songs are in MyCollection and the comments field does not seem to update. If I drag the song to an mp3 tag editor it shows the current tags. In DJAY it just shows old metadata.

Don’t use both LocalMusic and MyCollection.
Messes up things

Thanks again @Armigo . Excellent explanation.

My goal is to streamline the process for organising and getting my collection of local music files on to my iPad or iPhone for DJ’ing with DJAY.

Historically, I use Music.app to manage my playlists so I can sync songs to my iPad. I also use my own tag editor to tag songs for use in smart playlists. I use script from Doug’s scripts to update metadata on selected tracks in Music.app.

The entire preparation phase of DJ’ing is done outside of DJAY.

In Rekordbox, I can edit tags, manage local playlists, refresh tags and now even export to USB (OneLibrary). This potentially allows me to ditch Music.app and plug that USB in to my iPad for use with DJAY or Pioneer DJ gear.

What seems wrong is that again, I have to use a competitor’s app to manage my entire organisation workflow.

I thought that with the introduction of OneLibrary it might bring me a step closer, but I can’t use OneLibrary with the LocalMusic (iTunes) playlists in DJAY and I can’t get comments metadata to refresh on MyCollection playlists reliably. Quitting and re-launching changes nothing. I could delete the songs and re-add but then they will be lost from playlists.

Ideally, I would be able to do it all in DJAY.

Thanks for the additional info @rishi
