Reloop Beatpad with djay pro - crossfader doesn't work, others are jerky...

Hello,

I have iPad Air 2 which used to work great with Reloop Beatpad (I was using regular djay app). But I’ve just upgraded my djay app to djay pro and the Beatpad’s crossfader doesn’t work at all. Left and right faders are also jerky, just like the EQ faders. It’s driving me crazy. I’ve tried downgrading my Beatpad firmware to version 0.18 and it still doesn’t work. Upgrading back to 0.21 doesn’t work either. Are there any other firmware versions I’m not aware of or some other solutions to this? I really don’t want to change my Beatpad for a newer model because it does the trick for what I need it. I really hope someone will be able to help. Algoriddim says that the Beatpad is supported, but it doesn’t look like it. :frowning:

All the best,

Marko

Hi @Marko_G can you please try to capture a video of the issue, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here?

Also, can you please navigate to the djay Settings>Advanced>NEURAL MIX and share a screenshot of your quality settings? I suspect this may be a performance issue with your older iPad.

Thanks!

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!

Hey, I’m sorry for not replying as fast as you would want, but I’m working strange hours and can’t find time to record the thing before this weekend. I hope that’s OK with you. Cheers.

No problem @Marko_G. I’ll keep this topic open and reply when you share the video and screenshot. Thanks.

Hello again,

I finally got around to taking a video of the problem and I’ve uploaded it here:

Since I’m in the process of buying a new Mixtour Pro (the first one just arrived today, but wouldn’t turn on, so I had to send it back), I was thinking about giving my Beatpad to a son of my friend’s who wants to learn how to DJ, but what’s the point if he can’t use it properly?

And of course, I’ve tried connecting Beatpad to my new Windows laptop with Djay app, but it doeesn’t recognize it at all. :frowning:
Also, changing the order of operations doesn’t help either (loading Djay first and then turning on the Beatpad and vice versa)… Please help.
I just don’t want to believe that Beatpad should be relegated to trash. It worked flawlessly before the updates… And younger generations (in my case) could use it as valuable learning tool.

All the best in 2025!

P.S. There are no settings for Neural Mix on my iPad Air 2. It’s too old to support it, but I don’t need Neural Mix on that device at all. I’d be happy if basic features worked properly.

Hi @Marko_G, thanks for the video - that’s very helpful. It seems like there might be a problem with the Beatpad 2 hardware or your cables/adapters.

  1. How exactly are you connecting the Beatpad to your iPad?
    a. Are you using the original Reloop iOS DIN cable or the USB-B socket and some kind of adapter?
    b. If you’re using the original DIN cable, are there any obvious signs of damage or wear to the cable or the connector on the Beatpad (obvious loose connection)?
    c. Have you tried connecting via the USB-B socket and a Genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera adapter?
  2. Is the Beatpad also connected to power or are you trying to run it off the iPad internal battery?
  3. Has the Beatpad been exposed to moisture or perhaps a lot of dust?
  4. Are you using the (built-in) MIDI mapping or a custom edit?
  5. When you try to connect to your Windows laptop, what cables and socket on the Beatpad are you using?
  6. Do you have an iPhone that you could try connecting to?

Hello again. Thank you so much for your quick reply. Here’s the information you asked for:

  1. Beatpad is connected to my iPad with the original Reloop iOS DIN cable.
No sings of damage on the cable because I haven’t used Beatpad much since I got it
(I had big plans but work got in the way). Actually, Beatpad was used probably for 20 days altogether in the 10 years I’ve had it (and always indoors, in private setting, with absolutely no contact with liquids).
I’ve tried connecting Beatpad to my Windows laptop, but when I go to Djay Pro Settings and then to Audio Devices, when I select ASIO Setup in Audio Driver, there are no devices listed. :frowning:
  2. Beatpad is connected to power. Always.
  3. Beatpad has spent most of its life stored in the original Reloop Beatpad case, in my living room.
  4. I’m using the built-in MIDI mapping, I think. I’ve never even tried making a custom edit.
  5. When I try to connect to my Windows laptop, I use the USB-B port on Beatpad.
  6. Yes! Very good idea! I’ve just tried it and the results are identical.
Main crossfader doesn’t yield any change in sound.
Left line fader works fine, right one is jerky and doesn’t really work
(and it makes the lights on the Beatpad buttons go dim when I slide the right line fader all the way down - strange).
Low, mid and high nobs react in the same way as with the iPad.
And the data light on Beatpad keeps blinking even when the Djay app is idling (no tracks playing, the device is left alone).

You’re welcome @Marko_G. Thanks for the additional info.

  1. Did you download and install the Windows ASIO drivers from Reloop? Did you also run the ASIO config/setup?
  2. Given that you’re experiencing the same issue on your iPhone and iPad, really makes me think it’s a problem with the Beatpad or the cables.
  3. I think it would be good to reach out to Reloop support as well to see if they have any suggestions.
  1. Yes, but the only window that opens shows no devices.
  2. This situation happened once before (when I decided to turn Beatpad on after it was stored in the case for about 2-3 years). I solved the problem with the Beatpad firmware update and was super happy how smooth it worked. Then (about a year later) my iPad updated its iOS and since then, I have the same crappy situation like a few years ago. Reverting to the only previous Beatpad firmware I have doesn’t help. I also looked into downgrading my iPad’s iOS, but no luck since I didn’t store my old iOS blobs.
  3. Is there a forum or a contact you could point me to?

Here’s a link to the Reloop Support and FAQ page: Support - Reloop

@Marko_G, this might be a long shot, but have you tried connecting to a different electrical outlet or via a surge protector or good power bar? Ideally with nothing else connected to it.

Hello, I’ve updated the driver on my Windows laptop and now it detects my Beatpad,
but it displays exactly the same behavior as with iPad (erratic faders in Djay Pro).
I’ve tried connecting to a different outlet, with nothing else connected to it. No difference.

And I’ve tried sending the support ticket request to Reloop, but the page just won’t finish sending it
(it says “Sending…” and then stops after a while, saying “verification expired, check the I’m not a robot box again”). :(((

Hi @Marko_G, given that the same issue occurs across 2 OS’s and 3 different devices, this is most likely an issue with the Reloop hardware or firmware. I’m not sure why their support page isn’t working, but unfortunately I don’t have any other contact information for them other than what’s publicly available online. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

The only other thing I can think to try at this point is to test djay on your iPad with another DJ controller to see if you experience the same issues on different hardware.
