Reloop Mixon Pro 8, Djay Pro + iPad Questions

Not sure if this is the right part the of the forum - so apologies if it needs moving!

I currently run two Technics 1210mk2, Numark Scratch + Phase. I’m kind of looking to change up my setup somewhat, but limited on space. I think given that I mix EDM, I don’t generally interact with the platters too much. So when using MP3s, feels like it makes more sense to use a controller (to get rid of wow and flutter), and then supplement with the turntables for an occasional analogue track or mix.

I can just about fit a Reloop Mixon Pro in the middle of the turntables, if I change them to battle orientation (not great for EDM though and riding the pitch!).

However I had a few questions!

  1. I’ve always used a MacBook Pro, but I like the idea of a tablet holder, and just using an iPad. How does the iCloud cue points etc work? Do I just make sure the same file is in My Collection on Mac and iPad - and it detects it and applies beatgrid and cue points? (Really hoping there’s some sort of cloud library solution soon)
  2. I saw a lot of posts in the past about hardware issues with the Mixon 8 Pro - particularly the platters. Has this being manufactured out, or still an issue?
  3. If I’m recording on Djay Pro on iPad, can it record phono channels + the Djay Pro channels?
  4. Annoyingly I think phono can only be applied to channel 1 and 2, which is annoying as a general user experience (when the turntables are on the outside), can anyone confirm that’s the case?

Any other thoughts or input would be great! My other option is to drop a turntable (keep one in non battle style) and pick up a FLX10. Just means I lose the option to mix vinyl to vinyl.

Hi @andybarnes,

    A. You just need to enable iCloud sync on your Mac and iPad then your hot cues, saved loops and other metadata will be automatically updated across both devices.
    B. iCloud Sync macOS: iCloud syncing | Algoriddim Support
    C. iCloud Sync iOS: iCloud syncing | Algoriddim Support
  2. I saw a lot of posts in the past about hardware issues with the Mixon 8 Pro - particularly the platters. Has this being manufactured out, or still an issue?
    A. I haven’t seen anyone complain about this recently and I never had an issue with mine, so it seems Reloop has addressed the problem.
  3. If I’m recording on Djay Pro on iPad, can it record phono channels + the Djay Pro channels
    A. I’m not 100% sure about this one, but I don’t believe the phono channels can be recorded with this setup. I think the phono channels are routed internally in the hardware straight to the master output similar to the Mic channels. Unfortunately, I don’t have a turntable to test this with to confirm. I can reach out to our hardware team for confirmation if you want though. Just let me know.
  4. Annoyingly I think phono can only be applied to channel 1 and 2, which is annoying as a general user experience (when the turntables are on the outside), can anyone confirm that’s the case?
    A. This is correct. Phono can only be applied to channel 1 and 2.

Hey. Thanks for coming back so soon! I did see in the older messages that you’d owned one of them before !

That’s really interesting. I do record a lot of sets, so it’d be good to know how it works on these controllers, like Mixon Pro 8 and FLX10.

As on the Numark Scratch I only have two channels, so I just switch the channel I’m playing through on Djay Pro to Thru (in software) and it picks up the output from the turntable when I’m still on PC mode on the mixer. But clueless how it works if I’m on a 3rd or 4th channel which is explicitly set to phono.

You’re welcome @andybarnes. I’ve passed your phono record question onto our hardware team for review.

Amazing! Thank you.

No problem. You’re welcome @andybarnes

Hi again @andybarnes, sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, the Mixon 8 sends a copy of the final mixed audio to djay for recording, which includes all the line/phono sources and the microphone. However, they are all not sent separately; the Mixon 8 just sends a stereo feed of what goes to the main output.

Amazing. Thank you for coming back to me. So on that basis, would Djay Pro take the stereo feed for recording (what’s the downside of it not being sent separately)? Looks like it’ll work out one way or another!

You’re welcome. Basically means djay is recording the combined master output of all inputs. No major downside other than some lost flexibility I guess.
