Remove a song from an Apple Music/iTunes playlist?

How do I remove a song from iOS / iPad playlist (MP3 added via Apple Music/iTunes app) so it doesn’t get played?

I DON’T want to delete the MP3 from the playlist though. I just don’t want to play it in that session.
I can’t see how to do this. I can only see how to move it to the end of the playlist.
Thanks in advance.

Hi @coffee_king, I recommend that you trying creating your playlist in the My Collection source then add the songs from your Apple Music/iTunes source.

Hi.
I’m not sure you understand what I’m trying to do here.
I want to remove a song from a playlist in DJAY (Or lets say EJECT it), so it doesn’t play when playing that playlist for that one instance in DJAY.
If I was to play the playlist again it should still be there.
As in it’s NOT getting deleted from the iPad altogether.

Thanks for clarifying @coffee_king. I can’t think of any way to do this in djay.

just don’t play the song, or at best, don’t include it in your current playlist. Re-create a new playlist! If you’re automixing, then you can just delete as you said from the auto-queue

“Just don’t play the song” ??? - I don’t think I’m making myself clear here.

The song is in my playlist copied over from iTunes/Music Mac app.
I set the playlist to play at the event.
I decide at the event while the playlist is playing that I DON’T want a specific song that’s in the playlist that’s due to be played at some point.

Is this not actually possible then?

I think (I hope) I understand the request.

What @coffee_king wants, is to be able to flag a song in a playlist (for once), so that it shouldn’t play.

Actually, it does not work exactly like this.
It works by using the Queues.

-If you use Automix, Select your Playlist in the Automix Queue, then just remove the song you do not want to play from the Automix Queue (it will remove the song from the Automix queue, but not the native playlist).

If you do not use Automix, but you are still playing a playlist automatically, then you should use the Queue (not the Automix Queue, but the Default Queue), then, it is just the same, once you have filled the queue with your playlist, just remove the particular song you do not want to play.

You should use these queues, which also allow to rearrange your songs for a particular play (just today for example), without altering your native playlist.

The playlists are like a sorted warehouse.
Whereas the queues are the preparation of what you really intend to play, today.

The answers you received earlier are because the Apple Music Streaming Playlist cannot be altered by deleting or resorting, you can only add, in order to avoid a sync mess between Apple and Djay, so that Apple Music remains master for the playlist.

But your problem will be solved using Days Queues in Djay (not directly altering the Apple Playlists in Djay).

If, alternatively, you intend to play this playlist frequently, without some specific songs, or in a rearranged order, then, as some have suggested above, you better copy this playlist in the “my collection” part. Your new playlist will still use Apple Music streaming (seamlessly), the only difference is that the playlists in “my collection” are not synced with Apple Music, so you are free to modify them as you want in Djay, without altering the source playlist, as they are now living separate lives.

Did I understand correctly ?
I hope this helps.

Hi
Thanks for your response.
I’m not using Apple Music Streaming Playlist. I am transferring the mp3 files directly from my Mac to my iPad. Nothing I am playing is from a streaming service or stored in the cloud.

I am simply using playlists/automix.

This entire process to simply NOT play a song in a playlist just sounds like way too much effort and too much to remember on the odd occasion I need to do it.
I’m not a DJ, I just put on some background music at private band performances when the band aren’t playing live.

You can reorder songs in a playlist without it affecting the playlist permanently in the future simply by clicking the play button with three horizontal bars behind it at the top of the screen, which brings up the Automix page, then by pressing and moving the three vertical bars to move songs up and down the playlist.

You CAN remove a song from a playlist/automix - whatever you want to call it (Again not permanently) as long as the song is loaded into the player by pressing eject but ONLY if its the next song loaded into the player.

There is a PLUS + button to add songs in the Automix playlist…It’s just a shame there isn’t a MINUS - button to remove songs here too.

I’ll assume there is no way of doing this then.

Dear @coffee_king ,

Of course there is a way to do this.
I explained it to you two weeks ago already.

You have to use the queues.
In Djay, Playlists are storage : Drawers.
If you intend to play the full drawer, as it is it, this is fine.
But if you want to change something, just for once, then you don’t mess with the drawer.
You just use Djay as it is intended to, which means, using the queues.

So, I am trying again with screenshots.

First, you want to click here (see green square).

There you will see how to access the standard queue and the auto mix queue.
Let’s use the standard queue. Click on it, and empty it if not empty.

Then load this queue with your playlist (select playlist).

Here you can select the whole playlist, or some songs of the playlist.
Or you can already unselect the songs you don’t want to play here.
Then click “Done”.

Once you are there, you can do what you want, add songs, rearrange order, and… remove songs.
And voilà : You can now delete any song you want.

Then, as you usually do, load your deck, in this case i’ll choose deck A, and you choose your first song as the first song of the QUEUE (the right part of the screen). NOT from the playlist.

This may seem a multi-steps thing at first.
But once used to it, you will appreciate the flexibility, and reckon why queues and playlists are two different things.

Hi
Thanks for your response. I have since worked out a much faster workaround.

  • Start the playlist
  • Load the song you don’t want to be played on this occasion into the deck currently not being played.
  • Long press the music note on the deck that the song is loaded into.
  • Press EJECT.
    DONE!!!

Now that song is removed from the playlist for this instance.
If you restart the same playlist in the future the song will still be there.
So it’s not deleting it.

I hope this helps others.
