Device model: 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max Version of operating system: macOS 15.4 Version of djay: 5.3
Summary of the issue:
Part 1 – Expected Behavior (Working Case):
When browsing a playlist without applying any manual sorting (e.g. by BPM, Key, or any other column), the scroll position is correctly retained when switching between playlists. This behavior is as expected and is shown in the first video. The app remembers the last scroll position per playlist and brings the user back to that position when returning to the playlist.
Part 2 – Bugged Behavior (Not Working After Sorting):
As shown in the second video, once any sorting is applied within a playlist—for example, sorting tracks by BPM—the retainScrollPositionPerPlaylist feature no longer works as intended. The scroll position resets to the top of the playlist every time the user returns to it, instead of remembering the last position. This disrupts the workflow, especially when working with large playlists that require precise navigation.
Yes, I agree that this is an unfortunate “bug”.
It would really help my personal workflow if it retained the scroll position even when the playlist is sorted by one of the column headers (e.g. BPM or Artist).
Hello @trebbis and @Belford_Roxo. Good catch! This is indeed unexpected behavior. Thanks for the detailed info and videos - that is very helpful. Our engineering team is investigating further and I’ll report back here when I have more news.
Hi Slak_Jaw,
when using the Show in Playlist feature in 5.3, if the bpm or other columns is selected, when you right click on a song and choose a playlist from the pop-up list, it will jump to that playlist but the song is not selected and the position of the playlist is at the top.
But if none of the columns are selected, then most of the time it will jump to the playlist and the song would also be selected. (This happens a lot if the playlist is in a nested folder)
*This behavior is similar to the problem when returning to a playlist and it retains its previous position or selected song only if none of the columns is selected.
Hi Slak_Jaw,
Retaining the scroll position is working nicely in 5.3.1 when a column is sorted, but the only snag is it doesn’t show the selected song—unlike when no columns are sorted, where it keeps the scroll position plus the selected song. Showing the selected song really saves time since you don’t have to scan the list to locate it again.
Thanks!
Hi @Papagp, can you please confirm which version of djay you are using? Regarding your comment, was that just regarding position when sort option is applied in smart playlist?
Hey Algo team, when flipping between playlists (if sorted by BPM) e.g: if I’m in “Hip Hop” and load a 98BPM track then go to “R&B”
when I come back to “Hip Hop” it’s put me at a totally different BPM place in that playlist.
Have been using DJP on iPad M4 at some big venues with FLX4 and this has been wasting so much crucial time scrolling just to get back to last selected song, it’s honestly so frustrating for this kind of multi genre workflow.
Last loaded song placement when returning to a Playlist (whether sorted by key, BPM etc. )
For extra sauce : a “favorites” column (similar to RB’s Tag system) would go a long long way with this playlist flipping workflow too.
The Library management is still one of DJP’s weaker points. Let’s all get it to class leader.
Thanks again for the recent updates and continuous improvements.
Hi @Mixfit, thanks for the details about the issue and the screenshots. I’ve merged your new topic with this existing one. Please confirm your setup details below as this should have been fixed in 5.3.2. Thanks!
Device Model (ex. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen): Version of operating system (ex. iOS 17.3.1): Version of djay (ex. 5.1.3): Hardware/controllers used (ex. Reloop Ready): Hardware Firmware Version (ex. 2.7):
Hey thanks for collecting all these threads I did search for related terms but couldn’t find anything so created a new one.
I’m still getting inconsistent positions when returning to playlists.
iPad Pro M4, 18.6. - as of today’s date updated.
Djay 5.4.2 latest update
DDj flx4 controller - firmware, hasn’t had a firmware update release since purchase
You’re welcome @Mixfit. Thanks for the additional details. Can you please also capture and share a short screen recording of this issue? I’m unable to replicate this on my setup, so I need to forward this to our engineering team to see if they can reproduce it. Thanks!
Sure thing here is a video:
Please note , I go between R&B and Hip Hop playlists.
The BPM changes every time I go back to a playlist.
Also play on mute cos I wasn’t focused on mixing lol.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Ideally there should be modes where you can
revert to last place in a playlist
retain current BPM (of track playing) when navigating to a new or different playlist - that would be amazing.
Hi again @Mixfit, I discussed this with the dev team and the above fix was for macOS and Windows. They are working to add this to iOS as well. I’ll share more news when I have it. Thanks!
Hi, just jumping in here to point out that this issue is still not fixed on MacOS.
I am running Sequoia 15.7 with version 5.4.2 of DJay Pro and sorting by any column prevents retention of scroll position when returning to a previously viewed playlist. Here’s a video showing what I mean.
