Sampler - 8 Beats is not responding

  • Device model (e.g. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen): iPad Pro M4
  • Version of operating system (e.g. macOS 14.4.1): 18.6.2
  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.1.2): 5.4.2
  • Hardware/controllers used (e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro): Mixtour Pro

Summary of the issue:
Attempting to use 8 Beats duration option in the Sampler record function only results in 4 Beats length.

How to reproduce the issue:

  1. launch App
  2. sampler > record options (lower-left)
  3. change duration from default (4 Beats) to 8 Beats
  4. turn on metronome
  5. press REC
  6. observe REC ‘clock’ and metronome click

Expected Result

  • Rec clock is moving 1/8 quadrants
  • Recording length is extended to record for 2 bars

Actual Result

  • Rec clock is moving 1/8 quadrants
  • Recording length remains 1 bar, the first bar is repeated
  • Recording within the second bar area erases prior events

Doesn’t Occur

Hi @NiceThings, thanks for the video - that definitely clarifies things. I tested this on my iPad and couldn’t replicate it so I need to pass this onto our engineering team to see if they can. I’ll report back when I have news.

Hi again @NiceThings, our engineering team was not able to replicate this either. Can you please check if the issue also happens when you trigger the samples on screen instead of via MIDI? Thanks!

Yep, it’s the same via GUI

My apologies, I can’t believe I missed a vital part of the repro!

1. launch App
2. sampler > record options (lower-left)
3. change duration from default (4 Beats) to 8 Beats
4. turn on metronome
5. press REC
6. **RECORD EVENTS USING GUI or MIDI**
7. observe REC ‘clock’ and metronome click and PLAYBACK pattern

You won’t see it via the metronome, you’ll hear it from the event notes:
Only the first 1bar is recorded and repeated, the 8 beat extension does not respond.

Thanks for checking in @NiceThings. Unfortunately, our team still has not been able to replicate this on their setups.

I suggest that you backup your djay Media Library database and any custom MIDI mappings, then uninstall djay, reboot your device, and reinstall the latest version of djay. You can find the files above in the following locations:

  1. iOS: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPhone/iPad->djay->User Data
  2. macOS: https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014912211-Where-does-djay-Pro-store-playlists-cue-points-and-other-data-on-my-Mac
  3. Windows: https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014912131-Where-does-djay-Pro-store-cue-points-and-other-metadata
  4. Copy the files to a new location or external drive before uninstalling djay. After reinstallation, you can simply copy these files back to their original locations to maintain your Hot Cues, Saved Loops, My Collection Playlists, History and Queue.
