Your question:
im guessing i need to have tempo blend turned off and cfx effects off as well. can someone confirm? also do i need to change anything in settings when scratching? not many videos on yiutube explaining in clear concise detail
One of the most important settings for scratching is the Crossfader Curve. You’ll want to set this to Cut in the djay Settings>Sound>Mixer>Crossfader curve. This ensures that a very small movement of the crossfader away from the edge results in the other Deck being at full volume. This is essential for most scratches.
Also, turn Sync, Quantize and Keylock OFF when scratching.
Make sure your jogwheel is in Vinyl Mode and not Nudge/CDJ Mode (this is a button on your controller labelled VINYL).
If you really want to learn how to scratch, I highly recommend you consider taking an online course like those offered by Digital DJ Tips. I took their “Scratching for Controller DJs” course many years ago and it was super helpful. This is a challenging skill to learn and you’ll save yourself a lot of time if you follow a structured course like this. In the meantime, here is some of their free material:
Bonus Tip: we have some free scratch sounds included with djay from DJ Qbert. You can access these by clicking on the album cover in the deck area and selecting Scratch Tools. This will load a special track onto the deck with common sounds used for scratching. I hope that helps!
thanks slack jaw, do you turn on and off all of those settings when your going between that and then using the neural effects (for some sets)? I know you mentioned in the past u like some of the neural effects. im guessing when i want to do scratches for a set i should adjust those settings you mentioned and turn them on for a more casual quick transitions set?
You’re welcome @joccili. Turn them off for scratching and back on as needed or desired when not scratching. A lot of those settings are for transitioning/mixing and will interfere with scratching.
