Please could you create some functionality where saved Cue points, loops etc could be applied on a per-playlist basis?
There’s a Rekordbox-based hack where renaming a file name with a different case character allows for a duplicate entry in the collection to the same file, allowing multiple instances of that track with the ability to then apply different sets of Cue points.
I’ve desired this functionality in Traktor for YEARS but no-one has ever come up with it so far.
Could I suggest a “default” set of Cue points will be be visible as normal, but then the ability to set Cue points from scratch for the given playlist.
Its probably easier to just create multiple versions of the file and suffix them with a different file name. Its not something ive ever seen on anybody’s radar on any forum until the youtube video was posted the other day, which means there is likely not much of a market for it and therefor not much chance of anything being developed specifically for it.
Not really scalable to have multiple copies of files, space is at a premium and multiple devices to consider.
Searching for “track X” could yield 5-6 results, how would I know which one to pick unless I edited the meta data to show “default” versus “X, Y, Z”
I jumped on it because of the DDJT video you referenced from Phil, an accidental hack which permits this functionality, but without multiple files like you’re suggesting.
The way i look at these kind of things is how desperate do i need the functionality. If its something i need now then ill look into ways of facilitating it due to that immediate need. Creating multiple versions of the track (with different remix names, same as how an EP of a track you’ve bought would work now) is the current solution that gets you the feature you want today.
Then ill look at the wider market and the list of existing requests and wonder where it would fit in that list, and if there is sufficient interest for a software company to spend time developing the feature… if the answer is likely not (due to being one of hundreds of requests sat in the pool) then id revert to the first step and see what i can do to solve the problem.
Hi @Slak_Jaw, thanks for the reminder. Yes I was aware but if I’m honest with you - for general compatibility with anything I play on, I try to have four Cue points max per track, something like:
1st beat
Start of vocal
Transition out drop
Loop point to extend transition
I accept that’s really basic, but it’s served me well for a long time and no need to navigate for extra Cue where no physical pads exist on device X,Y,Z.
So the idea of having Cue points per-playlist would let me adjust certainly the third and the fourth Cue points listed above, depending on the next track in the given playlist.
