Hi,
I have a few questions regarding loops while using my FLX-4.
When having a loop and using beat jump it moves the loop placement instead of the position within the loop. I never tried to move a loop left or right, but I several times had the problem that phrases weren‘t matching perfectly and I wanted to skip a bar or two in order to exit the loop at the right position. Is that possible in any way?
Can I save loops in a way that they will be active the next time I play this track? I remapped the midi to be able to reloop or activate a saved loop but I couldn‘t find any way to auto-start saved loops like in rekordbox.
I could find a midi command for loop on/off but was surprised that it didn‘t seem to be in the default mapping. Whenever a loop was set but inactive I didn‘t have a way to reactivate it. Did I mess up my mapping previously or is this the default? The „4 beat loop/exit“ button has „active“ printed as shift-option but didn‘t do it.
I’m not sure I fully understand your issue here. In djay, you are able to set the loop size and the beat jump / skip size independently. If you have, for example a 16 beat loop already running, but realize that you’ve set it 4 beats too early, you can set the beat jump size to 4 beats and then move your actively running loop ahead by 4 beats. Maybe you can share a short video of what you are trying to achieve here.
In djay, you can currently only automatically activate Saved Loop 1. You will find this option in the djay Settings>General>SONG LOADING>Activate Saved Loop 1.
If you’ve created a custom edit of the default MIDI mapping you can always revert to the original by selecting the one with (built-in) at the end of the name.
@Slak_Jaw it would be helpful to revert one button/note back to the default mapping. Especially if it’s one with advanced settings. I accidentally changed a jog wheel setting and it took me a while to reverse-engineer It back to the normal behavior.
If you need to revert the whole mapping you either need to dive into the xml to save your custom mapping or re-map all other buttons.
Since I messed it up slightly I have a weird behavior:
when one deck is playing, everything is normal.
As soon as I press play on the second deck, sync gets activated. Once I press pause on any of the decks sync switches off.
I can deactivate sync but as soon as soon as both decks are playing the next time sync gets activated again.
I can’t find anything in the midi mapping or in the settings that would explain it. It only happens on the iPad where I changed the mapping recently so I assume it’s related to that. Do you have any idea?
Hi @Derstu, perhaps you can compare the XML text file for the (built-in) MIDI mapping with your custom one to determine the differences and narrow down the issue?
Can you please also share screenshots of your djay Settings>General>SYNC MODE on both of your devices? It sounds like you may have slightly different settings here.
I now figured it out, but it took a while. During my setup O accidentally activated crossfader FX.
As I never touch the crossfader I didn’t notice.
After a while I noticed the small blue arrow next to the crossfader and realized that crossfader-fx automatically activate sync even if you’re not using them.
Could you please point me to the location of the default mapping? I couldn’t find it and it would be very helpful to have it.
You’re welcome @Derstu. Glad you sorted out the sync issue. The default mapping is automatically stored in the same location as your custom edits within the MIDI Learn tool of djay. You can identify it with the words (built-in) at the end of the name.
On iOS, you can find all the MIDI Mapping files using the Files App and navigating to On My iPhone>djay.
