I’m experiencing an issue that I’m becoming increasingly aware of. When I play pop music, many of the songs vary significantly in both loudness and overall fullness. Some tracks sound just like they do on CDJs, while others come across as quite flat. Almost like some would be bad quality, but most of them are Apple bought. I’m starting to suspect this might be a problem with Djay, and it feels like it’s getting worse.
I have the auto limiter deactivated, but I do use auto gain.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I‘m using an IPad Pro 2021 and the latest version of Djay, with a Vestax VCI 400 Controller.
An example would be “Oops! I Did It Again” by Britney Spears versus “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO. While the Britney song sounds solid on a CDJ, it doesn’t sound as great on my setup. The LMFAO track sounds banging on both. Both are Apple bought. CDJ via Recordbox.
In general, I find the auto gain function doesn’t work well, as I often have to adjust the volume because the mixer (which I’m plugged into with my controller) LEDs indicate I’m much quieter or louder and it also sounds like that.
With streaming services, where there are multiple copies of the same track, it’s worth checking to see if another source sounds better (different mastering, EQ etc).
I have the same issue. I thought it was my controller so bought a new pioneer controller and it’s worse.
When I play straight from iTunes it’s crystal clear!
I’ve turned off auto gain and the limiter etc.
now I’m going to trial a new software.
The only thing keeping me is the fact I can stream Apple Music on Djay but if the sound is rubbish I can’t play big venues so I’ll have to quit it and go elsewhere.
I’m using a MacBook Pro and used Numark four which was not fully compatible even though it’s on the algoriddim site. It kept going into demo mode and having volume fluctuations.
Now I bought a pioneer FFX4 and the sound is still poor. Again I play Apple Music on my set up and it’s crystal clear.
This is a serious issue
I’m using MacBook Pro and the sound is limited severely even when the limiter is turned off in preferences.
I thought it was my Numark four deck controller that was the problem. And although this has its own issues of not being fully compatible so therefore going into demo mode and inconsistent volume levels, I’ve since bought a pioneer DDJ FFx4 and sound is poor!! Always low and muddy.
When I play straight from iTunes it’s crystal clear and correct volume.
This is about to force me to have to go to a competitor.
I use this for work so this is a huge issue. I can’t play big clubs or spaces with this issue. @Lukas if you are the faults guy can you get this sorted. I’ve seen comments as far back as Feb 2016 saying the same thing.
The software must match or exceed the quality you get with serato! Or I will have to change streaming service as well as DJ software
Hi @Mainez, can you please share some screenshots of your Audio Devices and Sound Settings in djay? Can you please also confirm that you have compared the audio output quality with other DJ software and the same MacBook Pro and FLX4 hardware?
When you say:
Are you still outputting the iTunes audio through the FLX4?
I want to confirm if it is an issue with the audio quality of the FLX4 hardware or if it is related to the DJ software / audio settings. Thanks!
Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!
