Space Bar & Setting / Sync Mode - 5.3.3

  • Device model Mac Book Pro M1, 2020
  • Version of operating system Sequoia 15.5
  • Version of djay 5.3.3.
  • Hardware/controllers used : none

Pressing the Space Bar used to (and still supposed to) stop/start both playing tracks (2 Deck Mode) at the same time simultaneously while crossfader is in the middle. In 5.3.3. this only happens when the tracks are synced. However, In the standard keyboard settings pressing SPACE is assigned to “general” and not to Deck 1 or Deck 2 specifically. But his is not the case.

in former versions of Djay it used to work, even when the tracks are not set to SYNC.

Can you please fix this issue? thx

Hi @elmarjager, sorry for the delayed response. I needed to check with our engineering team on this one to be sure. They tried this and said it feels like expected behavior. Can you please confirm what use case exactly should behave differently? Please share the exact steps to reproduce and the actual vs. expected results.

We suspect what you are asking for is that even if decks are not synced and the Crossfader is somewhere in middle you want both decks to start, not just the active one. If that’s the case, could you please explain the use case in more detail? We deliberately apply this logic so you don’t accidentally have two tracks started and playing out of sync. Thanks!

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!

Hi Slak,
thanks for te response - i was in holiday.
yes exactly what you say below is what I want and it is also what the keyboard overview still says (pressing SPACE will play / pause “general”). “general” as opposed to “Deck 1” or “Deck 2”. But that only the case when it is synced. It used to be the case.

User Case: I am using DJay Pro without a controller to make a karaoke night. I have 2 tracks play absolutely simultaneously, one is the instrumental and other vocals only - like 2 stems.

to start the both tracks simultaneously I used to press space. Now it only starts one deck. And yes, the crossfades is somewhere in the middle and no line fader is set to zero.

Thanks for confirming and clarifying @elmarjager

Hi again @elmarjager, I spoke with engineering about this further. “General” just means that the command is not tied to either Deck 1 or 2 directly, but doesn’t necessarily mean that it affects both decks.

We believe your use case is valid, but not a standard one (the current behavior is). We recommend you try an alternate method to trigger both at the same time.

  1. One option would be a small MIDI controller where you map a single button to Deck 1 and Deck 2 play/pause (this is supported by duplicating MIDI mappings).
  2. Another would be for you to just press the 1 and 0 shortcuts simultaneously.
