Stems with External Audio Sources

Question : Can Stems be used with external audio sources ?

I am looking around for a 4 deck controller.
I am focussing on a MIXON-4 right now, as it’s fully supported by Djay.

As I also have two older CDJ-800’s which I like to use I figured that I’d add a second audio input to my Mac, add the two CDJ800 to that and tell DJay to use those inputs for deck 3 & 4.

This should give me the option to use both the software as well as eternal hardware.

What I am now wondering is if STEMS will work with the audio that comes in over the secondary audio input ? Would be cool if it did.

PS: IS Neural Mix unlocked by this controller by the way ??

Cheers,

DjPete

** EDIT : Never mind, this isn’t an option as the External Mixer setting in DJay is an “OUTPUT from” only and cannot be used as an “INPUT to” … **

No, there’s no such thing as stems for live audio (yet). The entire track has to be analysed in advance.

I think you’re right, but there’s a bigger issue first… dJay does not work with external INPUTS, only external OUTPUTS  Silly me ! lol

There must be an option for inputs, as that’s how DVS works - but usually when using external hardware i.e. CDJ’s you would connect their outputs directly to your mixer and not route them through software.

Well, the DVS system only “sends” a signal, either in a wave form or a timecode, which relates in the end to the soundtrack that is loaded into the software, so DVS , by all means, is a sort of remote " cogwheel " if you get what I mean.

For Input as in Audio input that can be mixed through any of the channels, the software would have to recognize such input as in " capture" the realtime signal, which it doesn’t so my idea is not going to work, but I’ll find another way, if needbe through an external mixer indeed. Sadly STEMS will not work for those channels but it is what it is, eh  .
