Strange behaviour other Deck when using Censor Effect

Hi,

The Censor Effect (Instant Effect under Chapter Noise & Sweep) is a very nice one. It reverses the playing direction of a track (secret messages :scream: :grin:) and gives a nice effect that is you can use live.

But… after I played a little with it I stumbled across something that must be a bug:

Having the effect on a track in Deck One does effect a track that is playing under Deck 2 after you hit a HotCue in Deck 2. Now Deck 2 also reverses the playing direction (and I can’t Imagine this is the intention)

And it goes even worse when Deck 2 seemingly can’t reverse to normal anymore (it kept doing that even after reloading a track). Also the direction of the picto in the Play button of Deck 2 reverses.

You see all what happened here in this video I recorded.

Hi @DJ_Big_Blender, thanks for the details about your setup, the issue and especially the video. This is very helpful and I agree this is certainly unexpected behaviour. I’ve passed this onto our engineering team to see if they can replicate the issue and offer any suggestions. I’ll report back when I have news. Thanks!

Hi again @DJ_Big_Blender, engineering was able to replicate the issue and address it. It should be fixed in an upcoming djay release (likely 5.2.6). Thanks again for sharing.

Was it only the Censor effect that was affected, or were other effects also impacted?

You’re welcome. Only the Censor FX.

You also have the Twist function (under Classic), which seems to work exactly the same as the Censor function.

I just noticed that the Twist function had the same issue with reversing the other deck.

Hi @DJ_Big_Blender, thanks for sharing and I have passed this on. However, I believe the source of the issue was more related to the sync function than the specific FX used.

However, I’m still curious—what is the actual difference between the Twist function and the Censor function? Could you explain? As they seem to behave identically to me.

Hi again @DJ_Big_Blender, both Instant FX had the same underlying issue and the fix addresses both. Twist is essentially Censor + an added delay effect.

Thanks for letting me know. Atm the new 5.2.6. version isn’t in my Appstore yet, but I will try it once it’s available here.

Also from the changelog it looks like this other bug is fixed as well in 5.2.6?!

Hi again,

Just downloaded 5.2.6. to check the Censor/Twist effect whether is working correct now.

Like you can see in the video here it still isn’t working correct:

  1. The Sync function just deactivates in the middle of playing with the effect (1.30 min)
  2. The play button suddenly points to the left (2.27 min)

Hope this can be fixed in the next version.
