Streaming... how to back out of spinning wheel?

  • Apple M1 Max 2021
  • 15.0.1 (24A348)
  • Version of djay: 5.2.3
  • Hardware/controllers used: FLX4

Alright… I have learned my lesson. I went through a wirlwind month of doing my first wedding to one every weekend and most recently a double Friday/Saturday. It seems no matter how much prep I do there are always new issues and obstacles that must be dealt with in the moment. It feels great to be alive and have the energy to learn and grow in this space.

I have gone ahead and purchased the essentials… but with streaming - sometimes if the wifi signal is weak or I’m using hotspot through my phone, I find djay can get locked into a not so fun experience of trying to load the track, the spinning wheel goes round and round on the deck, but I’m not able to abort/load a local file on top, etc.

This led to a few experiences of maaaaaasssive panic… is there any way to cancel a song mid-load from Apple Music? If the connection isn’t great it’ll hang for like 30 seconds… ejecting doesn’t work and loading a local file doesn’t work. It would be nice to have some sort of way to cancel when this happens.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Not wanting to be the one to tell anyone how to run their business, but there is no way I would rely on streaming services to do any paid event, sure I have Apple Music as a back up for the odd request, but if you are serious about getting into this business, then you must own all of your music or at least 95% of it…

I have been reading too many people just this week complaining how their Soundcloud isn’t working which just reiterates my point.

Thank you for not addressing the question, making assumptions, and dumping your opinion.

Streaming works for requests outside the working 95% library. If streaming that request results in a bricked program for 30 seconds to a minute because the signal isn’t strong enough, I would appreciate a way to cancel the action.

Mate, you just answered your own question🙄

Hi @orangeoctopusjim, song loads should be cancellable. Please send us a sample from activity monitor while the app is showing the spinning wheel so we can look into it further. Thanks!

Please see video… in this case loading a local file worked to free it up, but that didn’t work in the past (loading directly from iTunes purchases didn’t free up the loading wheel). Is there a way to force quit loading a track that isn’t eject?

Thanks,
Matthew

Hi @orangeoctopusjim, thanks for the additional info and video. I’ve passed this onto engineering for further review.

To answer your earlier question @orangeoctopusjim, loading another track onto the deck will cancel loading the previous one. However, you need to load a non-streaming track for this to be effective since you will run into the same issue loading another streaming track.

Also, the dev team is looking into adding an “Eject” option in a future release. I’ll report back when I have more news.

Hey! I mean this was mid wedding so maybe I was just stressing, but I could have sworn when I tried loading local songs on top of endless load wheel stream tracks - it wouldn’t cancel out of the load and I had to wait about 30 seconds to a minute for it to resolve itself just praying that the current track wouldn’t end before. The video I submitted shows the opposite - loading a local file does unlock the software, so maybe I was just panicking at the time or it’s been fixed but I’ll keep an eye out and if it happens again will record.

Thanks!
