Subscription or Purchase Option

Hi Team !

I’m Dj OneKlick and I have started using djay App from the very beginning (phone, IPad, laptop) purchased every version of it and made it my everything. I’ve tried other dj softwares, Serato, Virtual…but stayed with DjayPro (Mixons 4 & 8)

I recently bought the rane performer and with the stems, I cannot fully use Djay Pro without a subscription.

When it comes to subscriptions, i just don’t. I like to buy what I need and when I need it. I won’t mind paying for an additional stems pack. And that’s exactly what Serato does. You can subscribe or buy.

On top of that, the Performer comes with Serato Pro. With everything.

This situation is pushing me away from Djay Pro.

My suggestion is to have both purchase and subscriptions for people like myself.

I hope this will help the community

Kindly,

DJ Oneklick

What issues do you have with paying £26.49 for the year across all devices? I personally feel this is very reasonable. Rane has an agreement with Serato hence why you see Serato’s name on the Rane Performer. £26.49 for the year for all the updates we get is a steal. Just my 2 cents.

That would certainly mean a noticeable drop in subscribers and therefore also in sales. This has been discussed for a long time, but I don’t think the provider will reconsider it. Why should they when it works like this? And ultimately, and this is certainly no surprise, Algoriddim is also concerned with maximizing profits somewhere.

It’s not about the amount, it’s more a question of principle. From the customer’s point of view, a subscription is almost always the worse (and more expensive) alternative. Only a few would prefer a subscription to a one-off payment.

Funny thing: I bought a Serato license but stopped using it after two months when I discovered djay Pro. Now I’m also using an S7, which hardware-unlocks Serato, and I still never use it.

My issue is the subscription only option. Not about affordability. It’s the fact that it will increase overtime like Netflix from $8 to $20 today.
I want to be able to decide which new features are usable before I put my money on it. A lot of current features a lot of Dj’s don’t use.
As my account will show, I’ve purchased every version of it.
Serato has both options, Tidal and Apple integration and I don’t mind buying the Serato Pro right now.
It’s a suggestion to level up.

What price would you buy a Djay Pro for?

The developers could have gone one more way:
Buy the version 5 program for $499 and use it for life, but the next upgrade to version 6 would cost $149 if you have version 5.

It would be up to the user to decide if they need the new options and are willing to pay $149 for them.

But… I’d rather pay $50/year for now, or even $30 for a subscription. It’s a very good offer and better yet the developer doesn’t talk about other pricing plans.

It appears to be cheaper in the UK than it is here in Australia,

£26.49 works out to be approx. $54.64 Aussie dollars,
I’m currently paying $79.99 AUD which works out to be approx. £38.78 per year.

I joined in 2023. Current yearly UK subscription is £48.99.
£4.08 per month for software of this calibre is a steal imo.

You missed the point. The price for the package is great….for now. It won’t stay like that for sure.
I introduced many Dj friends to the app.
As a personal choice, I don’t like subscriptions…anywhere.
My new Rane performer made me rediscover because I couldn’t fully use the stems with djay pro without subscriptions.
The Rane comes with free Serato Pro, but you can get the license for a one time $250 or subscribe for around $9 monthly. That’s what I’m suggesting here.
I hope you get my point
Kindly

Some benefits to living in UK then :rofl:

When Rane makes a controller for 2000 euros with full support for Djay Pro functions, then the Djay Pro program will be given to this controller for free.

Program subscriptions are not my cup of tea either.

But as long as there is no competition… They will definitely appear in a year or two, and then we will be able to observe how the market will change.

If you think the price for the package is great why don’t you just pay it for now and stop when they do put it up to a figure you think is unreasonable.

Did you not consider the price you’ve paid for the Performer, a percentage of that money will go to Serato? Do you honestly believe you get serato for free?

Im with you on this one as well. Aside from DJing, I do video production, music production, radio production, graphics, and publishing. I paid $1200 for Adobe Creative Suite CS6 in 2014 to handle most of these things, and then Adobe moved to subscription-only with Creative Cloud. I used it for about 4 years and realized I had spent $2300+ in subscriptions (not to mention that all the cloud programs crashed at an alarming rate). I dropped the subscription and went back to the more stable (and already paid for) CS6. Now I’m using DaVinci Resolve for video, Logic Pro for music and radio production, and Affinity Suite for graphics and publishing. I make sure to only use Adobe’s competition, so Adobe be damned. I own a REV7, and it comes with Serato Pro, but I had already purchased Serato Pro for my lower level controllers. I actually prefer DJ Pro AI, and had purchased it outright on my one Windows PC before the AI stuff came out. Then I subscribed to DJ Pro on my iPad so it works on my MacBook and iPad, but they won’t let me use the AI version on my Windows machine for some reason. Still, I prefer the option to purchase outright or subscribe. For those who ask why, and state it’s only pennies annually, it’s really none of your business that I prefer the OPTION. I feel that if Algoriddum offered the option, maybe my $500(?) purchase, along with others who prefer the same, will still help developers go a long way in bringing new features to the app, just the same as annual subscribers do. That would come up to around $12.5 years of subscription money that would still help development (up front). I currently subscribe because there is no option, but it is a matter of preference (which is up to the individual. If Serato had an iPad version, maybe I would stick with them more, but I enjoy DJ Pro AI more. Still, I hate having subscriptions, and I already own Serato Pro, and could be force to drop the subscription if the option fails to materialize soon.

On point my friend
That’s my point. I’ve tried Serato but was so Djay Pro. I’m diving into it and adjusting so far. I like the fact I’m reorganizing my entire library. I wanted full control of the stems. Will purchase the license $249. They also have the subscription.
I’ll use both, 1 as my backup moving forward so my brain is not wired to one to the point that you can’t leave
Again, Djay is Great
Thank you for sharing

There is another problem with the subscription model, if the application is discontinued you can’t no longer use it. When you have a purchased version it is independent of online verification and can be used on compatible systems forever.

For me I prefer the subscription, Why fix something that is working perfectly, Please Algorithm, leave it as it is, $49 for a year for a Software like Djay pro, And the software will keep getting better and better, So please let us all grow together with this Amazing software.

This is not a problem that cannot be solved.

There are certainly reasons for the subscription, just as there are reasons for everything else. I use the software, even with a subscription, because there is simply no comparable product for me that I can use with the iPad. Nevertheless, a subscription is always the worst option for the customer and primarily serves to maximize the company’s profits. That’s not a bad thing, we’d probably all do it that way, and why change it if it works? But I think you should be honest and say so. In any case, this is not necessary to make such a product economically viable in the long term, as many, many other examples show.
