YOUR QUESTION:

  1. I’m switching iPads, how do I avoid losing all my bookmarks, cue points, and playlists? I’m using an external hard drive with the One Library system.

Hi @MarcosAraujo, welcome to the Community! On iOS this process can be managed as follows:

As an additional security step, djay stores your My Collection playlists, cue points, saved loops, and other metadata in the djayMediaLibrary database. You can find the database using the Files app in On My iPad>djay>User Data. I recommend that you manually backup this file to your iCloud or an external drive. Please note, that this doesn’t contain any of your actual music files though. If after following the Apple Support article steps above, you are missing any of you djay data, you can simply copy and replace the new database file with your backup. I hope that helps!

I’ve set up a shortcut that copies the entire folder from my iPad to a backup folder in iCloud with the press of a button. I use this from time to time, but definitely after making major changes (new playlists, new tracks in playlists, new cue points, etc.). If you buy a new iPad, the switch is something you can plan for, but a backup like this can also be helpful if you can no longer access your old iPad - due to a malfunction or similar issue - to copy the data.

@Slak_Jaw In that context, it would be great if you could specify the path where the data is stored in the settings. That way, you could set the path to iCloud and have access to the latest data at any time, even from other devices.

Thanks for sharing @Chris_R

I’ll do it. Thanks.

Could you make a tutorial on how you created this button to make backups easier?

You’re welcome @MarcosAraujo

So I replaced the iPad, everything installed correctly. However, regarding the music on the external USB drive, it opens perfectly, everything seems fine, but my playlists are all grayed out. Is there a way to fix this?

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

You probably just need to wait for all of your local music songs to finish fully downloading from your iCloud backup. Give it a day or so…

So let’s wait, because this process ended a while ago on iPads; one or two tracks appear in the playlist. The message that appears is - Track not available.

Hi @MarcosAraujo, I just wanted to follow up on this one.

So, I went through the entire backup process, but unfortunately, everything remained grayed out. I had to manually redo all the work, moving folder by folder back into the playlist.

Taking this opportunity, I honestly don’t understand why it takes so long to implement simple updates. Many users here report the same issues, and we always get the standard response that ‘the engineers are working on it.’

While DJPRO is an incredibly powerful software, it is far too slow to release updates that actually improve usability. We need the development team to be much more agile in adopting simple, dynamic methods that make the platform easier for everyone to use. There are so many other software programs we all use daily; it’s entirely possible to look at them and implement those same modern, streamlined features here.

Sorry to hear that @MarcosAraujo. I’ve upgraded my iPads and iPhones several times overs the years, and the Apple backup and restore process has always worked seamlessly for me with djay and my other apps.

Thanks for your additional feedback on djay app development in general. I’ll share this with our dev team. Please keep in mind that we have a relatively small team considering the power and complexity of djay. Especially when you realize that it runs cross-platform on macOS, Windows, Windows-ARM, iOS, Android, VisionOS and Horizon OS (Meta Quest). So while some updates may appear simple and straightforward on the surface, they are often much more complex, challenging and time consuming to implement in reality. I hope that makes sense.

It might be because my hard drive is external for music storage and not internal.

Probably

Hi again @MarcosAraujo, I shared this with our dev team. They are asking if there are any specific updates you’d like to see prioritized? If so, can you please share links to the existing Community topics for reference? Thanks!

I would like to point out a couple of issues regarding how the software handles data, along with a few simple features that would greatly improve the practical, day-to-day usability of the app, especially on iOS.

1. File Metadata / Date Modification Issue Currently, whenever I add tracks to a playlist or modify a folder, the software automatically overwrites the original ‘Date Added’ or ‘Date Modified’ metadata with the current day’s date. For instance, I just made a backup during our conversation, and it instantly updated all file dates to today’s date. The software fails to preserve the historical ‘Date Added’ data. Every time a folder is accessed or tweaked, the system resets it to the current date, which severely disrupts library organization.

2. Missing Features on the iPad Version The iPad app is currently missing some basic, essential layout and organization options that would drastically improve workflow:

  • Grid/Column Options: There is no option to display or sort by specific grid columns like Artist or Title.

  • Color Coding: The option to assign colors to tracks or folders is missing.

Implementing these adjustments would make the ecosystem much more reliable and practical for professional use. I hope the team can consider these updates for future versions.
