Setup details:
- Two turntables with Phase DJ system
- Pioneer DJM-S7 mixer
- djay version: 5.3
- macOS version: 15.4
- Device: 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max
Summary of the issue:
I’m experiencing a sync-related issue while using djay in Sync mode with both BPM and Beat enabled. The problem occurs when two tracks are synced — initially, they are aligned correctly, but after a few moments, a noticeable drift between the beatgrids develops. This results in the tracks going slightly off-beat, even though sync is still active.
This behavior can be seen clearly in the video I recorded. It seems to happen inconsistently but often enough to affect live performance reliability.
Your right deck tempo is a little to the left. Your tempo knob is just above the left and right channel vu’s. Mine does that sometimes. I’m not sure if I have a mapping in a weird spot or I slip with my finger on my phone, but that’ll be the cause of the drift.
Thanks for your reply! However I am not sure if I understand. Are you referring to the pitch slider of the turntables?
As you can see the pitch slider on the right deck is neutral in the middle. The pitch slider on the left deck is not neutral but I think for djay it doesn’t matter where the pitch slider is. When sync is enabled bpm should simply match if I understand correctly…
Still unclear to me what causes this issue…
The software itself. I included a screenshot. There’s some non intuitive logic when using DVS, and I’m not sure how it gets activated but it works as a secondary tempo that overrides the sync I think. Click the knob there and hit “reset” on tempo and it should fix it.
Isn’t that the digital gain dial that controls the volume of the channel?
Oh possibly. The phone and desktop layout is quite a bit different I guess. Take a look for a tempo spot then, I’ve had this issue before and that’s what it was every time. Either that or calibrating when turntable pitch were modified.
Hi @trebbis, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue - this is very helpful! Our engineering team was able to replicate this issue and is investigating further. I’ll report back here when I have more news. Thanks!

Any news about this? I was able to replicate this issue too. I’ve noticed it seems to happen more the longer you play, at least in my experience so far.
Hi @Austinjacobm94, thanks for the additional info. Our team is still working on this. I’ll share more news here when I have it.
Hello everyone, this should be addressed in the latest 5.4 release. Thanks!

I’m on 5.4 (not updated to 5.4.2 yet). And I’m not sure if what I’m doing is right - or I even expect it to work, but it’s not happening for me.
- Two 1210 mk2 turntables (complete with wow and flutter!)
- Phase DJ system
- Numark Scratch mixer
- djay version: 5.4
- macOS version: 15.5
- Device: 14-inch, 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Pro
I set the mode to “WIR” on both decks.
I set BPM and Beat Sync on.
After a short while, they’ll drift out. Although it’s a horrible sound as they both battle for speed.
Is this not expected behaviour with the wow and flutter on turntables?
Im hoping to get phase. I thought it would be a smoother process than what you’re going through. Is there an option to calibrate it? Maybe one platter is a little faster than the other?
I think I just wondered what the expected behaviour is. In the original post, the left turntable is pitched at a higher speed than the right one. So should the software understand this and adjust accordingly?
I’ve found weird behaviour when using tempo shift on my tables along with built in tempo adjustment, so I usually opt for hitting sync quick then deactivate for tempo instead and not adjust turntable speed. I think it’s because the signal shifts up and it’s applying its tempo on top, so it gets confused. There’s been a lot of discussions about DVS here, it’s a work in progress for djay.
