The Future of Algoriddim dJay

I agree. Algoriddim are definitely targeting the entry to dj market. This is the mass market but not that faithful as most will move on to other software. I think to ensure people stick around long term you need to appeal to semi and pro djs also.

Iā€™ve seen a great feature taken out bc one dj out of hundreds didnā€™t like that particular feature but havenā€™t even seen any basic features (that are often requested) been implemented in the past year.
We have no idea how Djay pro decides which features will be implemented.

One thing I do notice with existing features is theyā€™re designed with a very restricted workflow like Djay pro designed it how they think we should use it instead of realizing every DJ has their own style and workflow and features should be flexible to various workflows.

For the most part I agree. Start adding new features after fixing crashes and fixing existing features that donā€™t work or only work half the time. My macbook pro with serato and Rekordbox never had a crash but djay pro on the same laptop often crashes so at gigs I walk on egg shells and only load songs and play, nothing else. Iā€™ve sent in crash reports for the past year but havenā€™t had any feedback aside from update to the latest version which never fixes the problem. Please at least let me know if itā€™s my set up or itā€™s a known bug.

Despite all frustration Iā€™ll stick it out for another year since I spent countless hours tagging and setting grids and coming into djay pro I really thought this would be the one. The dynamic grid is incredible.

Thanks!

Iā€™m really enjoying this discussion and the varying opinions on the topic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone!

My opinion

  • Stop supporting sooooooooo many controllers

Wrong wrong wrong

the more controllers they support natively, the more users they can potentially get off of Serato and Rekordbox

Just a quick note re ā€œdigging into the delicate intricacies of the record box SQLite DBā€ā€¦ This would be very illegal. Reverse engineering Pioneer DJ products (or anyoneā€™s) is unlawful. It will result in a quick and very serious lawsuit. Just think about it: EULA violation, unfair competition, copyright infringement, patent infringementā€¦

You can be pretty certain thatā€™s up to Apple. We can +1 'till the cows come home.

For Algo it would be no work at all to enable stem support for whatever source. Itā€™s actually extra work to block it.

Politics and behind the curtain stuff. Donā€™t ask me why though.

If only they would add Deezer. Cheap. Stem support. Huge library.

Sure! As long as they support YOUR controller, the rest can go fish?
As new controllers are released, new potential Djay Pro customers purchase them. With 10 years of project management in a multi national big tech company, did you ever think of looking to the future?

How is the company to survive without constantly updating their feature set to stay relevant with the competition & supporting new controllers??

Why? Because it doesnā€™t appeal to YOU? or because YOU think it has no future? What Algoriddim has done with the VR headset is incredible and shows the world just what a talented & open minded company this is. Even if there is no immediate response to this tech, the company is now ahead of the pack in this field & perhaps somewhere down the road this technology is incorporated into something even more useful for djā€™s that everyone latches on to. For such an experienced professional as yourself, you seem rather narrow minded in terms of the future and where technology is headed.
To be totally honest, your list of tips sounds like nothing more than a specific list of things YOU want & think is most important - not really whatā€™s actually best for the company.

This whole ā€œthat tiny little iPhone appā€ discussion really sucks, and is a clear demonstration of mass behaviour.
The ā€œbig onesā€ like you mentioned are the biggest market sharers. And thatā€™s all.
Maybe they came first, maybe they got better marketing, possibly their features implementation had better timing, but in the end of the day itā€™s not about the tool you use, but what you DELIVER through the tool you use, be a hobbist or a professional. All of these softwares allows you to make basically the same: MIX TUNES!
Of course they all have flaws, surething they have to improve in many aspects (libraryā€™s sync is Djsā€™ main issue probably). All of them.
Fact is Djay has been upfront in many technologies that only appeared later on the competitors, but that does not justify libraryā€™s sync absent.
Most of djs i know donā€™t know why they use rekordbox or serato. Most reasons are they learned first on them, a friend recommend, club hardware availability, and goes on like this.
For me DJAY not being considered as a ā€œprofessionalā€ software by many is simply because of that mass behaviour, and the feeling of being ā€œrespectableā€ by others saying: ā€œoh, rekordbox man, know it!ā€
Not easy to leave behind comfort zone and develop a comfortable new workflow on a new platform, that my be challenging on the beginning but rewardable in the end.
Who made the transition from windows to Mac ecosystem knows exactly what this means.

I wonder whether Algoriddim actually knows which are the most popular controllers /decks among Djay Pro users (?)
Might help with dev prioritizing (in addition to the features voting).

Not sure if this community software supports votings. If so, a poll could be launched by the moderators, e.g. regarding

  • hardware that is currently used
  • satisfaction level with regard to hw/sw integration
  • hardware designated replacement / upgrade / additional purchase (if any)

Just an ideaā€¦

Hi @turbopussy, Suggestion and Hardware topics already support voting.

You can also build polls within individual posts

What hardware controller are you using with dJay?

  • Small beginner Controller (e.g. Hercules DJ Control Mix Ultra, DDJ-FLX2, DDJ-200, Buddy, ā€¦)
  • Medium-Level (e.g.Mixon 8, Mixtour, DDJ-FLX4, Traktor s3/s4)
  • Pro Level (Pioneer DJJ-XZ, Denon LC6000, ā€¦)

Thank you very much for all the opinions. Of course I itensionally expressed some debatable opinions in my OP. I never ever wanted to insult anything or anyone. I explicitly wanted to start ā€¦ exactly this ā€¦ discussion. THX for all your input.

Hi again @doogie, can you please respond to my questions for earlier? Iā€™d like to pass this feedback onto the dev team. Thanks!

I definitely agree that Djay should continue to support as many controllers as they can. I am more skeptical when it comes to things such as VR where I kind of doubt the size of the userbase for such a feature. Iā€™d rather see stability and performance improvements, personally.

Iā€™d love improvements to library management (ability to remove songs from playlists in Apple Music from inside of Djay would be nice), the ability to see the tracks inside of all of the playlists inside of a playlist folder (I have all my genre playlists inside of a DJ folder in Apple Music, but itā€™d be nice to be able to see and sort all tracks from all these playlists if I want to switch to a different genre), and pre-cacheing tracks from streaming when theyā€™re in queue or the cursor is on them. Lastly, I think the ability to import/export beatgrids from Rekordbox and Serato would be a game changer.

Maybe I am wrong and there are a lot of people DJing on Quest and Vision Pro. But I know as someone DJing on desktop (and occasionally mobile), Iā€™d rather see improvements in those fields.
