Tidal Bug: Reappearing playlists delete other playlists

Hi everyone,

I’ve been running into a highly frustrating and bizarre issue with my playlist management on Tidal lately. Since it happens across all platforms (smartphone app, tablet, and web browser), I strongly suspect it’s a server-side bug on Tidal’s end.

My Workflow:

  1. I maintain various playlists in Tidal, most of which are organized into folders.

  2. I regularly transfer new, interesting playlists from Spotify to Tidal using tunemymusic.com.

  3. I listen through them, add the tracks I like to my permanent Tidal playlists, and then delete the imported Spotify playlists from Tidal.

The issue consists of two parts:

  • Issue 1 (Ghost Playlists): Some of these deleted (imported) playlists reappear in Tidal after a short period of time – with their original name and full content intact.

  • Issue 2 (Data Loss on Deletion): When I try to delete this “ghost playlist” a second time, it briefly disappears, but it takes down one or more of my other, permanent playlists with it. Suddenly, two or three of my own playlists are completely missing from my folders, and they seem to be gone forever. Meanwhile, the imported Spotify playlist usually pops back up a few days later anyway.

This is not only messing up my music library, but I’ve also become terrified of deleting anything because I don’t want to lose my carefully curated playlists.

Has anyone encountered this behavior before? Could it be that TuneMyMusic duplicates or overwrites playlist IDs during the import process, causing Tidal to target the wrong playlist when I hit delete?

Any advice, insights, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Chris_R, it sounds like two separate things are going on:

The reappearing playlists are most likely a TuneMyMusic sync, not a Tidal glitch. If you ever chose the Sync option (rather than a plain one-time transfer), TuneMyMusic keeps a recurring task that re-pushes that playlist to Tidal on a schedule — so deleting it in Tidal only holds until the next sync runs, and it pops back with its original name and contents. Check tunemymusic.com > My Syncs, delete any active sync tasks pointing at Tidal, then revoke TuneMyMusic’s access in your Tidal account’s connected-apps settings so it can’t keep rewriting your library.

The data loss (deleting a ghost playlist taking down other permanent ones) doesn’t seem like a TuneMyMusic related issue. Their docs say it only reads the source and never deletes on the target — so this might be a Tidal-side issue and is worth reporting to Tidal support directly with your specifics.

Anyway, I hope that helps!

Thanks for the tips. There was only one automatic sync set up with tunemymusic anyway, but I’ve deleted that for now, and I’ve also removed the connection to Tidal. I’ll set it up again and keep an eye on it.

You’re welcome @Chris_R. Hopefully that clears up the issues.
