- MacBook Pro M4 MAX*:
- Version of operating system macOS 15.6.1:
- Version of djay 5.4.2:
- Hardware/controllers used Traktor S3:
I had 2 gigs this week where my controller didn’t work with Djay Pro version: 5.4.2.
I am on MacOS 15.6.1
Using a Native Instruments Traktor S3
It had been working fine previously.
Behavior now: in settings, under devices, it allows me to select Traktor S3 for both output and cueing.
No response whatsoever from the controller.
Opened up Traktor Pro software… Controller is working fine.
Also, controller hooked up directly to Mac as well as plugged into power outlet.
Thank you!
Hi @djwolffie, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue - this is very helpful!
- Can you please confirm that you are using the MK3 version of the Kontrol S3?
- Have you tried a different USB cable?
Please also refer to the steps below for properly setting up your Traktor Kontrol S3 with djay Pro for Mac:
- Use the following link to ensure your controller has the latest firmware, as older versions do not support it. Scroll down until you find the entry on the TRAKTOR KONTROL S3.
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/
- Run the installer on your Mac and follow the steps to update the firmware.
- Make sure your controller is fully unplugged from your computer and the power supply.
- Hold down the left FLX button (top left of the jog wheel) and plug the USB cable into your Mac and the controller.
- The controller cue pads should blink green to show you are in user MIDI mode.
- Launch djay Pro for Mac and start mixing!
I hope that helps!
To clarify… there is no MK3 version. The S3 only has the one version The S2 has the MK3…
And yes, tried alternate cables. The strange thing is it is working fine with the Traktor software. So I don’t believe it would be cable or the hardware. Right?
You are correct @djwolffie, my mistake on the MK3. Thanks for confirming that you tried different cables. Can you please confirm that you also followed the shared setup procedures above?
Thank you! I will try the other steps as soon as I can later this week…
Hi again @djwolffie, Steps 3-6 are absolutely necessary to use this hardware with djay. The S3 must be in MIDI mode for djay to recognize and use it as a MIDI controller. So, if you are switching back and forth between Traktor and djay, you will need to repeat the MIDI mode setup steps.
Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!
Hey. Tried it all on gigs this week. S3 refused to go into MIDI mode. I will have to look into why that is.
Thanks for the follow up @djwolffie. Strange that it won’t switch to MIDI mode.
S3 Not going into MIDI mode… what am I doing wrong?
I tried on multiple occasions this week to get the S3 into MIDI mode with multiple USB cables, multiple adaptors, a couple of HUBS. Plugged into a power supply. Nothing is working. Anyone else?
I hold down the left flex button, while alternately trying to plug in the USB to the computer, or on the other side to try to plug in the USB to the controller. But nothing happens. And also worth noting if I launch Traktor software, the controller is working perfectly with every function and all lights.
MacOS Sequoia 15.7
MacBook Pro M4 MAX (no USB A/B of course, only C ports)
thanks!
Hi @djwolffie, can you confirm the issue is getting into MIDI mode? When the device is powered into MIDI mode all LEDs will flash green after power up. If the LEDs don’t flash green even though you are holding the left FLX button on plugging in power then this is most likely a hardware issue. Thanks!
Rexolved. Working now. Repeated same steps again.. different day. Now it is going into MIDI mode. Sorry for the false alarm. Thank you as always for this forum!
