Traktor Z2 on Djay Pro Mac

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to figure something out and hope someone here has direct experience.

I use a Traktor Kontrol Z2 mixer and would love to run djay Pro with it on my Mac — controls, faders, knobs, FX, etc. — not just audio.

My current understanding:

  • The Z2 works great with Traktor but appears to require drivers/proprietary support.

  • On iPad, djay can’t see the controls because iOS doesn’t load those drivers.

Before doing anything complicated or assuming it won’t work, I wanted to ask:

Has anyone successfully used a Z2 with djay Pro on macOS, with full control support (not just audio)?

If yes:

  1. Which macOS version are you using?

  2. How is it connected — USB direct? Via a hub? Any adapters?

  3. What controls actually work in djay (faders, EQ, FX, cue, etc.)?

  4. Did you have to install anything (drivers, utilities, mappings)?

  5. What mappings did you use (default? custom MIDI map?)

  6. Any limitations you ran into?

I’m mainly trying to understand the real technical behavior of the Z2 with djay Pro on Mac before exploring hardware/software bridging options.

I think Algoriddim team is not aware how big is Traktor Z2 users database.

I’d really appreciate the addition of Z2 support, please, had a bit of a situation last week… whereby Traktor wasn’t working, and I had a mate who was expecting me to stream a mix to him, but I could not for the life of me get Djay on iOS to recognise midi from my Z2, I have an older MacBook Air, that works fine with Traktor, It did not go too well, last time I tried DJay pro on OSX.

Hi @N_A, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the input. I’m pretty sure the Z2 is not class compliant so it will not work with iOS devices.

Then what’s stopping on macOS?
Z1 is already working with Djay on macOS, you guys gotta support Z2 on macOS, no reason to avoid this really!

Thanks for the feedback @hardbea7. This device is nearly 14 years old now and no longer in production. At the moment, our hardware engineers are focused on supporting the current-generation of DJ gear, including newly released controllers. They are working at full capacity on this effort. We are aware of user demand for the Z2 and other older NI devices, but they are not at the top of the list right now. If the priorities change, I’ll definitely let everyone here know. Thanks for understanding.
