Thanks for the update @Gillster11. Very strange. The only other thing I can think of it to try is a fresh installation of djay. I suggest that you backup your djay Media Library database and any custom MIDI mappings, then uninstall djay, reboot your device, and reinstall the latest version of djay. You can find the files above in the following locations:
-
djayMediaLibrary: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPad->djay->User Data
-
MIDI Mapping: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPad->djay
- Copy the files to a new location or external drive before uninstalling djay. After reinstallation, you can simply copy these files back to their original locations to maintain your Hot Cues, Saved Loops, My Collection Playlists, History and Queue.
Tried this today no joy maybe hardware issue with flx 4 but works fine with laptop software and also when I switch to Bluetooth Midi it’s fine doing my head in and I actually found the wee box my Apple cable came in just to double check and it’s an official apple usb to lightning
Hi @Gillster11, I’m not sure what else to suggest here. I’m going to share this with our engineering team to see if they have any other ideas.
@Gillster11 maybe it’s a problem with the lightning socket on your iPad. Do you have another iOS device that you could try connecting to the FLX4 (perhaps an iPhone)?
I sent a small video showing connections and setup to alphatheta no response back yet as they asked me to make video for them probably something simple can’t get my head around it was thinking maybe there is some sort of combination during hardware boot of flx for like you can access the utilities mode by pressing the shift and play/pause button was maybe thinking was another combo that disables midi signal which I’ve hit by mistake

Thanks for the update @Gillster11. Can you please download an iOS App called MIDI Scope, then connect the FLX4 to your iPad and use it to see if it’s receiving MIDI messages from the FLX4?
- Connect your FLX4 to your iPad.
- Launch MIDI Scope.
- Navigate to the Source tab at the bottom left.
- Place a check mark to the left of the Pioneer DJ FLX4.
- Navigate to the Scope tab at the bottom.
- Press the Connect button at the top left.
- Now press buttons and move controls on the FLX4 and confirm if any MIDI signals are being received.
Ok after doing all troubleshooting midiscope everything trying various cables new ones bought new fast power plugs etc being on with Pioneer to be honest waste of time with them different person dealing with it every time I still have no joy connecting flx 4 via cable to my iOS devices only connects to laptop and to iOS devices through Bluetooth so I’ve came to the conclusion something happened during 1.06 firmware I wonder if anyone in the forum has any older flx 4 firmware’s in there computer and would be willing to share so I could rule that out
Thanks for the follow up @Gillster11. Sorry to hear you’re still experiencing this issue and that Pioneer was not able to help.
It seems that the Flx4 will suffer the same fate as the DDJ-400.
No worries at all I’ve tried very good cables like a chroma usb c to usb c into a high voltage power plug and using geniue Apple cable c to lighting and used various data cables no joy so give up just have to use it via Bluetooth and use a splitter plugged into iOS device for speaker then of to headphone not ideal but sure what can you do mad how this used to work no problem but now no

Ok just a little update on my issue with flx 4 I have narrowed it down to not being a cable issue as I expected and it’s not an iPad or IPhone issue also as I just purchased the Mixtour Pro today which is a weapon and amazing piece of kit and will be my go to for Djay Pro bit after connecting everything up using same cables as I used on my flx 4 all picked up fine and works as should be. So the issue is with my flx 4 or a firmware issue
Thanks for the updates @Gillster11. I also have a Mixtour Pro and love it. Really sounds like an issue with the FLX4 hardware or firmware.
Quick update on connection to my flx 4 to my iOS devices so yesterday I decided to try connect my flx 4 to my iPad and iPhone after updating to new djay pro 5.4 haven’t used my flx 4 since I had the connection issues so was put to the side and have been using mixtour pro instead but to my surprise when connecting flx 4 yesterday it worked didn’t do anything different just plugged it in with cables that didn’t work previously but all good now

Excellent news @Gillster11. Thanks for the follow up.
@Slak_Jaw I’m having the same issue as @Gillster11. FLX4 is not transmitting data to iPad. Power is connected but MIDI light is blinking and cannot control Djay Pro from FLX4. Tried force restart of iPad, using different cable, reinstalling Djay Pro, still not working.
Out of curiosity I plugged my iPhone into the FLX4 and it worked perfectly there, so it’s something inherent to connecting to iPad.
If I connect via Bluetooth in the meantime, is there a way I could get audio through my speakers rather than through the iPad?
Edit to add: I never had this issue before, but was away for two weeks and just got my FLX4 out today again for the first time since I got back.
Hi @Jasonh1296, welcome to the Community! Please share complete details about your iPhone and iPad setup.
Device Model (ex. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen):
Version of operating system (ex. iOS 17.3.1):
Version of djay (ex. 5.1.3):
Hardware/controllers used (ex. Reloop Ready):
Hardware Firmware Version:
- How exactly are you connecting your iPad to the FLX4?
- On iPad, the only other way to send audio to your speaker and headphones is with a headphone adapter and DJ splitter cable.
2021 iPad Pro 12.9 innch 5th Gen
iOS 18.6
Djay 5.4.1
FLX4 Firmware v 1.06
I’m connecting the iPad using a USB-C to USB-C cable to the data port on
FLX4, then connecting FLX4 to power. Have tried two different cables. Both
those cables worked when connecting FLX4 to iPhone.
Thanks for the additional details @Jasonh1296. Please try the following:
- Disconnect all cables and adapters from your iPad and DJ controller.
- Close djay.
- Perform a Forced Restart of your iPad.
- After restarting, connect a powered USB-C hub to your iPad and confirm there is a blue peripheral icon in the top right of your iPad screen.
- Connect your original Apple charger and cable to the USB-C hub and confirm that your iPad is charging.
- Connect your DJ controller to the USB hub using a high-quality USB cable (ideally with dual ferrites on either end).
- Confirm that your DJ controller powers up.
- Launch djay.
- Open the djay Settings>MIDI Devices and confirm that your controller is shown under MIDI DEVICES.
- If not, scroll down to the bottom and press Rescan for MIDI Devices.
- If this doesn’t work, unplug the USB cable from your DJ controller for a second then plug it back in.
- If this doesn’t work, try a different USB cable.
Hi,
I am having the same issue with iPad not recognising DDJ-FLX4.
I’m running the latest version of Rekordbox with the latest IOS on an iPad mini 5th gen and the latest firmware on the FLX4. I have all original cables and have tried every connection sequence including camera adapter.
Interestingly my iPhone 15 pro running the same version of rekordbox and the same iOS recognises the flx 4 as soon as it is plugged in and it works perfectly.
As others have explained when connecting via Bluetooth the controller works but no sound output comes from the speakers connected to the controller.
Really don’t know what else to try. I also submitted an enquiry to pioneer dj support but they have not replied.
Please help!
Thank you
