Unable to connect iPad to Pioneer FLX4

Thanks for the update @Gillster11. Very strange. The only other thing I can think of it to try is a fresh installation of djay. I suggest that you backup your djay Media Library database and any custom MIDI mappings, then uninstall djay, reboot your device, and reinstall the latest version of djay. You can find the files above in the following locations:

  1. djayMediaLibrary: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPad->djay->User Data
  2. MIDI Mapping: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPad->djay
  3. Copy the files to a new location or external drive before uninstalling djay. After reinstallation, you can simply copy these files back to their original locations to maintain your Hot Cues, Saved Loops, My Collection Playlists, History and Queue.

Tried this today no joy maybe hardware issue with flx 4 but works fine with laptop software and also when I switch to Bluetooth Midi it’s fine doing my head in and I actually found the wee box my Apple cable came in just to double check and it’s an official apple usb to lightning

Hi @Gillster11, I’m not sure what else to suggest here. I’m going to share this with our engineering team to see if they have any other ideas.

@Gillster11 maybe it’s a problem with the lightning socket on your iPad. Do you have another iOS device that you could try connecting to the FLX4 (perhaps an iPhone)?

I sent a small video showing connections and setup to alphatheta no response back yet as they asked me to make video for them probably something simple can’t get my head around it was thinking maybe there is some sort of combination during hardware boot of flx for like you can access the utilities mode by pressing the shift and play/pause button was maybe thinking was another combo that disables midi signal which I’ve hit by mistake

Thanks for the update @Gillster11. Can you please download an iOS App called MIDI Scope, then connect the FLX4 to your iPad and use it to see if it’s receiving MIDI messages from the FLX4?

  1. Connect your FLX4 to your iPad.
  2. Launch MIDI Scope.
  3. Navigate to the Source tab at the bottom left.
  4. Place a check mark to the left of the Pioneer DJ FLX4.
  5. Navigate to the Scope tab at the bottom.
  6. Press the Connect button at the top left.
  7. Now press buttons and move controls on the FLX4 and confirm if any MIDI signals are being received.
