- Custom PC with ASUS 5900x processor
- Windows 11 Home, Version 23H2
*djay Version 5.2.11033.0
- No controller used on this PC
With the new djay update for Windows (December 4, 2024), I am no longer able to drag a track from a folder in Windows Explorer onto a deck and have it load. The same holds true when trying to drag and drop from my library management software, mp3tag. Loading tracks into djay this way is an essential part of my track preparation workflow.
This PC doesn’t have a touchscreen or touchpad so, obviously, a mouse is the interface device I am using. Dragging and dropping files works fine between other folders and apps on the system.
I am fully aware of workarounds like setting audio file associations to djay instead of a default media player and I can deal with the issue in this way for now. But, in the long run, I will need the ability to load tracks by dragging and dropping them onto a deck to be re-enabled.
These things happen. Trying to improve software in one way can unexpectedly break it in another. I’m sure the engineers will figure it out. Thanks for keeping at it and I look forward to a solution for my issue.
Hi @KoolerThanLuna, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue - this is very helpful! We were able to reproduce this issue and our engineering team has already identified the cause. This will be resolved in the next djay release. Thanks!
Okay, good to hear. Thank you all for looking into this. Much appreciated.

No problem. You’re welcome @KoolerThanLuna
has anyone figured out a way around this??? so we can no longer drag and drop from windows explorer, this makes it nearly impossible to grab tracks on the fly now.
I set my audio file associations in the main Windows 11 settings to djay instead of VLC Media Player. Double click to play as you would any media file and it will load into Djay. But watch out, deck lock will not protect decks that are actively playing when doing this, only the last deck that the crossfader fully “touched”
The other workaround is to drag and drop into a playlist within djay and then load it onto a deck from there. That part of drag and drop still seems to work fine, just not dropping directly onto a deck. The downside is a bit of cleanup later if you didn’t want to permanently add that track to your djay library.
