Unable to "stream"video on TV/projector via HDMI

Hello !

I need some help to find how to “stream” my video mix on a TV/projector.

I only managed to “stream” the mirrored screen of my iPad.

A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:

  • No video mix “streamed” on the TV/projector

B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Last version of djay installed

  2. Last version of iPadOS installed

  3. iPad switched off then switched on

  4. “video output” selected (not “iPad screen output”)

  5. Connexion protocol between TV/projector and iPad with djay by Algoriddim strictly followed - - > How do I connect an external screen or projector to djay? | Algoriddim Support

  6. Mirroring of iPad screen on TV/projector = :white_check_mark:

  7. Mixed video output on TV/projector = :cross_mark:

C) EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • I would like to “stream” the mixed video (not the actual mirrored deck from djay app) on TV/projector

D) ACTUAL RESULTS:

  • Mirrored iPad screen on TV/projector = :white_check_mark:

  • Mixed video on TV/projector = :cross_mark:

  • Plus “no signal” message displayed on TV/projector  (even if “video output” is selected on in djay app)

E) SET UP:

  • Device model: 2025 iPad Air 11 inch M3
  • Version of operating system: iPadOS 26.4.1
  • Version of djay: 5.6.4
  • Hardware/controllers used: CalDigit SOHO Dock (hub)
  • Hardware firmware version: -

Thanks for your help and support !

Hi @GO_JA_GERN, welcome to the Community! Please refer to the user manual section below and let me know if that helps or not.

Try unplugging them reconnecting your HDMI cable. I’m pretty sure there will be a pop-up message or something to chose your video output type.

Hi again @GO_JA_GERN, if you disconnect, then reconnect your video cable while in Video Mode, you will be prompted to select Show Video Output instead of “Show iPad Screen”.

Hi @Slak_Jaw !

Thanks for your quick and precise answer.

Sadly, despite following your protocol, it still does not work. No “full screen” video mix on my TV.

Here is a shot illustrating the situation:

  1. Picture showing (not uploaded as new user can only upload on pic) my iPad’s screen (deck 1 video output + deck 2 video output videos + the main video output, two tracks and two live images loaded) + TV exactly mirroring iPad’s screen in the back of the picture. Connexion between the two devices works.

  2. Picture showing iPad’s screen after disconnecting/reconnecting my HDMI video cable. It does indeed show “Show Video Output” and “Show iPad Screen”. When I select “Show Video Output” my TV screen becomes black + mentions “No Signal”.

As a new user, the system does not allow me to upload videos.

What are your thoughts on this ?

Thanks for your follow-up and help.

You’re welcome @GO_JA_GERN. You need to be in Video Mode.

Also, I have upgraded your user privileges so you can now upload videos here directly.

Hi @Slak_Jaw !

Thanks for your follow-up and for the upgraded privileges.

As I am able to mix videos on my iPad and I am in Video Mode.

Please have a look at those videos showing the issue:

  • I am able to connect my iPad/djay and “stream” my djay app (mirrored iPad screen) on my TV.
  • But no full screen video displayed on my TV - - > only the mirror view with decks A and B, buttons and main video decks is displayed.

Here are the videos showing what works and what doesn’t:

What do you think ?

Thanks for your help !

Please swipe down from the top right of your iPad screen to reveal Control Panel, then select the monitor/output icon and share a screenshot of the options.

It’s either the TV or the connection cable(s)

  1. What’s the make/model of your TV (Was it repaired recently?). We had one of our Hisense TVs repaired and it would throw off video signal for all other TVs when in the splitter chain, unless we disconnect it off the splitter.
  2. Is there a resolution setting on it? If so, can you set it to either 720P (SD), or 1080P (HD)?
  3. What is the total connections between your ipad and the TV (Is it via an HDMi splitter? Is your HDMI cable a branded type or just generic? Can you try one graded as HDMI “high speed”?
  4. In djay “advanced setting”, set video “Size to Fit” as “Auto” or “Fit” and retry.

Thanh you @Slak_Jaw !

None of your last tips solved the problem.

Here is a screen of my iPad screen showing the Control Pannel:

No change😒

Funnily enough, when I took the provided screenshots, iPad was sawing two static pictures. I guess the second picture shows/unveils what might be the main Video output (but as a pic). Here is the second picture:

Hoping it helps you to… help me :joy:

Thanks for your support !

Hi @Armigo !

Thanks for your message and help. Here are the answers to your points:

  1. TV = JVC 500UHD_LCD_TV. It has no problem and has never been repaired.
  2. I search to change the resolution, nowhere in the menu I found the possibility.
  3. iPad / usbc output / usbc 10Gb/s hub’s original cable / CalDigit usbc SoHo Dock / High speed hdmi Typ A cable with Ethernet, 5 meters / JVC TV.
  4. I tried three setting (Size to Fit, Auto, Fit) always with deconnect/reconnect hdmi cable. Result = black screen on my TV/projector.

Nota bene: in the advanced settings, setting the button « Set video output as an external screen » on « green » results in a black TV screen (no full screen video on TV + no more mirrored iPad screen on TV). See picture below:

Plus the second « full screen » picture saved while taking the screenshot (here, Spiderman on Deck B + in the main video screen output):

Hope it helps to understand which settings as to tweaked.

Thank you in advance !

there could be an hdmi handshake issue, cable or the JVC again.

  1. Try on someone’s LCD
  2. Swap the 2 ends of that HDMI cable (some cables are unidirectional)
  3. Try another cable
  4. Try another dongle
  5. Take tea

Sorry that hasn’t helped @GO_JA_GERN. I agree with @Armigo, try different cables, hubs and monitor.

If that doesn’t work. The only other thing I can suggest is a fresh djay installation to see if that clears up the issue. I suggest that you backup your djay Media Library database and any custom MIDI mappings, then uninstall djay, reboot your device, and reinstall the latest version of djay from the official App Store. You can find the files above in the following location: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPhone/iPad->djay->User Data

Copy the files to a new location or external drive before uninstalling djay. After reinstallation, you can simply copy these files back to their original locations to maintain your Hot Cues, Saved Loops, My Collection Playlists, History and Queue.

@Slak_Jaw & @Armigo thanks for your help, tips and tricks. I will test them and keep you posted. Thanks again :+1:t2:

You’re welcome @GO_JA_GERN

Good evening @Slak_Jaw & @Armigo !

I finally found a solution

Long story short, I bought an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

I tried almost everything you suggested.

Every new test, with the “CalDigit usb SoHo Dock” led to worse and worse results (see pictures).

Nota Bene: it was the “iPad mirroring mode” as the “video output as an external screen” never worked.

@Armigo , here are the results of the tests you suggested:

  1. Try on someone’s LCD → not possible + I did consider this point not as a priority as the TV was streaming “something”, badly but “streaming”

  2. Swap the 2 ends of that HDMI cable (some cables are unidirectional) → done, no effect

  3. Try another cable → done, no effect

  4. Try another dongle → done, a new “Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter” was the solution

  5. Take tea → no tea but a celebration coffee

Anyway, thanks for your valuable suggestions ! :100:

Good evening !
