Unexpected MIDI out behaviour Midi Fighter Twister

  • Device model (e.g. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen): Mac Mini M1
  • Version of operating system (e.g. macOS 14.4.1): Sequoia 15.6
  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.1.2): 5.4.2
  • Hardware/controllers used (e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro): MIDI Fighter Twister, Inpulse 500

Summary of the issue:
When using Stem EQ MIDI out on my twister, when the software “resets values on song load” I think it sends a midi out value of 127, instead of the intended value of 64

How to reproduce the issue:
Load a song, use an encoder with midi out to adjust the stem eq value, load another song over the same track and check the controller for the value.

Video attached.

Wanted to provide more context for this. I use the “push to reset encoder value” built into the twister so I can easily reset the eq value to the detent. I basically have to press this at every song load otherwise I get huge spikes in eq values since pickup won’t work properly for these either.

I think the issue is when the song loads, even though the program shows it reset its value to 64 or half, it’s sending a midi out value of 127. Then pickup won’t work properly here either because the values technically “match” at 127 behind the scenes, despite the UI showing 64.

Hi @Austinjacobm94, thanks for the video and details. This is very helpful. Can you please also share your custom MIDI mapping for the Twister? Thanks!

Here’s a link for the twister config and the MIDI mapping.

I’m using Bank 2 for my stem controls.

Thanks for the files @Austinjacobm94

Any update on this? It’s a real buzz kill. Messed up my mixes from time to time when I forgot to reset the eq or it fools me into thinking I have everything boosted just to adjust it and have the eq boost on me.

i have found it very diffucult to map endless encoders, on my controller too
my endless encoders on my maschine mk3 have a bipolar switch to set the centre… to handle EQ’s or panning… and i’ve never been able to get the correct settings, to give the correct feedback

not a problem if you have if you have knobs on your controllers or touch faders
..different story with the encoders unfortunately

Hi @Austinjacobm94, I don’t have any news to share on this yet. Our hardware team is still investigating. I’ll share news here when I have it. Thanks!

So after some experimenting, when I set max midi out to 64 it works as expected. This leads me to believe my theory is correct. Hopefully this helps for anyone else having a similar or same issue.
