Time to upgrade if my iPhone can run this better than my iPad Pro lol. Comparing the specs between mine, the new Pro(M4) and the current Air(M2), it would seem that I don’t need to go Pro this time around, unless I am missing something. Just a few points;
is having 100% neuralmix quality noticeably different than 80%? I assume both options are capable of 100%
I get play/pause button delays from time to time, is that just something I have to accept with djay pro or is my hardware old enough to have issues?
Are there any current features I may not know of that a Pro would be better at? My next upgrade is probably going to be an inpulse T7, if that’s a factor.
Hi @SpEd, here’s some info that might help with your decision making:
Both the iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4 are capable of running Neural Mix at 100% quality.
It’s hard to say without more information what is causing your Play/Pause delay. This could be hardware related or simply your Quantize and Sync settings. We could troubleshoot this further in a separate topic if you’d like to create one.
One of the main advantages of the iPad Pro M4 over the Air M2 is the new display. However, if this isn’t important to you, then either iPad should work great with djay.
My personal approach to upgrading hardware is usually to set myself a budget and then to purchase the most powerful device I can afford within that budget. This typically allows for some future proofing and a longer duration between upgrades. I hope that helps!
i’d been considering various options concerning 100% neural stems,
i eventually settled for a iphone se gen 2, personally i dont really need the iphone other than to access the net… but i figured i would get that model based on the price and ability to get 100% neural stems.
Granted that iphone requires the lightening adapter in order to pair up controllers, …there are various methods of overcoming the limitations of small screens/ small batteries & connecting via lightening…
i’ve gone down a path of discovery to find the unique methods to integrate & overcome some of the limitations of the Iphone SE gen 2…
however there is one single element concerning audio, that can only be done via the lightening
and that is connecting to a audio interface, to get the lowest possible latency
That’s exactly what I would do as well,
No point in not future proofing your set up now,
My iPad 9th Gen has a noticeable lag whenever I use Neural Mix compared to my iPad Air 5th Gen
IMHO this is relative. I bought a lot of second hand and / or refurbished Apple gear (including at least a bit of warranty - so I can test run safely) because you can get great hardware at a very good price right after an upgraded device enters the market. And I can resell it two or three years later for almost the same price (a different type of future proofing I guess ). Even though they are not the absolute best when I buy 'm, the performance and (build) quality you’ll get from an Apple device that’s one or two years old is more than enough.
That said, I’ve bought one of the slightly higher specced MacBook Pro models. It’s all about timing. The new Pros are good value and I was still on Intel. I’m expecting to keep this one a little bit longer so for me it made sense to future proof the specs in this case.
