Using djay across two different macOS computers - a solution that seems to work

I like to prep on my mac at home with the big screens and then play on my macbook. On rekordbox this was easy as I was able to store the database on my external SSD. In djay sadly that isn’t an option so I needed a workaround.

What seems to work is once I have finished my prep, I then copy the djay media library out of the music folder, stick it on the SSD and then when I plug that into my macbook, drag it off the SSD and into the music folder. It’s a bit of a faff, but it works.

HOWEVER

In order for this to be successful, you NEED to switch off iCloud sync for djay. I had situations where I had set cues and loops and then when I loaded those tracks on my macbook, the cues and loops had GONE and it was doing my head in until I realised that djay sync’s with iCloud and that was messing it all up. I turned off iCloud sync and now everything works in harmony!

I just wish now that djay supported storage of the media library and settings on an external drive, that would be lovely.

I mean, the big question is why we can’t define where the DJay Library lives? Pop it into the iCloud folder and devices are synced.
Of course I can see reasons wy the app would hate this for read/writing on poor connections, but maybe it doesn’t write to the Library file proper until you quit or something.

All it needs, and I say this as a non-coder because I’m sure it could be quite complicated to do, is somewhere in settings where we can specify where the library file is stored, and that’s it. Then, every laptop/desktop/mobile device we connect that hard drive to, we just tell it that’s where the library is.

Sounds really simple…but then, I’m not a programmer.
