Using Djay on iPad with a Reloop Buddy and two DACs ?

  • Device model : iPad before M1
  • Version of operating system : IOS : 16.7.10
  • Version of djay : 5.2.4
  • Hardware/controllers used : Reloop Buddy

Hello,
As stated above, I have an older iPad (with Lightning port).
In my setup, I have this iPad running Djay, a Reloop Buddy, and an external DAC (Digital Analogic Converter) for optimal sound (I do hear the difference, fwiw), and an Apple Camera and a USB hub in between.

The DAC is feeding the amp, with regular interconnects.
All works fine (I am already happy).
But then I can no more pre-cue using the headphone connector of my Buddy.
And I do not want to go the “double split - mono” route.

Therefore, I tried plugging a second DAC in my USB Hub to see if it would be recognised so that I can feed a headphone with this second DAC. This second DAC would be nothing more than a Apple “USB to headphone Jack adapter”. But the Reloop Buddy (or the iPad) only wants to see the latest plugged DAC, not both.

So, I wondered if someone tried this (using to DACs) with a newer (USB C) iPad.

  • Would it work ?
  • If not, is it a controller (Reloop Buddy) or iPad or Djay limitation ? (I have a paid subscription).

Thank you.

Hi @Davidv100, it will not make a difference with a newer, USB-C, iPad. Currently on iOS, only one audio device can be used at a time (the last one connected). This is an iOS limitation.
