Video black-out when activating hot cues

Macbook Pro 2019, i7, 16Gigs
Sequoia 15.7.5
Djay 5.6.4 but this issue has been there for a long time before.
Happens with/without controller
Samsung T7 external SSD but happens even with internal tracks.

A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:
Video wall goes momentarily blank on hitting a cue point once. Hitting the same key a second time in a row, it doesn’t go blank.
This causes a “blinking” video screen and is bad for sensitive eyes when video dj’ing.

B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Load a video onto a deck and hit any cue point - video blinks blank. Hit the same cue point again and it doesn’t blink. Hit another cue and it blinks. Go back to the previous cue that wasn’t blinking and now it blinks again.

C) EXPECTED RESULTS:
Actually video should immediately show without blinking blank

D) ACTUAL RESULTS:
Video shows a non-existent blank frame first before the actual picture (blinking)

Thanks for the video and issue details @Armigo. I was not able to reproduce this on my M4 MBAir, so perhaps this is device performance related. Either way, I have passed this onto our engineering team so they can test on some older devices like yours. I report back when I hear back from them…

Hi again @Armigo, can you link this issue to a specific djay or macOS update? You say it’s been happening for a long time. It would be great if we could narrow this down a bit. Thanks!

Sorry I can’t. It’s been about year or so but I can’t be sure too. I lived with it for a while, thinking it was normal, until i compared behaviour to MixEmergency and noted a difference.

Okay, no problem.

@Slak_Jaw Sorry for the back-n-forth.
I have some news…
I thought of re-testing this blackout behaviour again after your inquiry on narrowing down the issue to an update.
Since I downgraded by mac all the way back to Sequoia 15.7.1 (which came in Sep 2024, over 18months ago), I tested to rule out OS update.
Indeed it’s one of those updates after 15.7.1 that was doing it.

Happy to note, it’s no longer blacking out with Sequoia 15.7.1!
