Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with video playlists in djay Pro on my MacBook Pro (Apple M3 Pro). When I create a video playlist, the videos load and play fine. However, after I close and reopen djay Pro, the videos in the playlist load but appear blank, as if the app is loading an empty file. This issue only affects video files—audio playlists are working perfectly, and I haven’t moved or changed the location of the video files on my external HDD.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, or is there a known solution? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi @SimpleSimon, when creating new topics, please do not forget to answer the questions in our template with specific details about your setup not just “iPad” or “Latest Version”. This helps all of our community moderators to provide the most effective support to users with the utmost efficiency. Thanks!

Thanks, @Slak_Jaw! Here are the specifics of my setup:
-
Device Model: MacBook Pro (2023, Apple M3 Pro)
-
Version of Operating System: macOS 14.6.1
-
Version of djay: 5.2.3
-
Hardware/Controllers Used: Reloop Mixon 8
Let me know if you need any more information. Appreciate your help!
Thanks for the details @SimpleSimon.
- What file format(s) are the videos?
- How are you creating these playlists in djay and how are you adding the videos to the playlists?
- You say they’re on an external drive. Do you experience the same issue if the files are stored on your internal drive?
- Can you please try to capture a video of the issue, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Thanks!
- The video format is .mp4.
- I’m creating playlists by clicking “Add Playlist” in djay, then dragging the videos into the playlist, just like I do with audio files.
- The issue occurs regardless of whether the videos are stored on the external HDD or the internal Mac hard drive—the result is the same.
- Sharing permissions for the video are unrestricted, so there shouldn’t be any issues accessing it. As shown in the screenshot I attached, when I load the video onto the deck, it’s blank with no video or audio waveforms, but all hot cues remain intact.
Thanks for your assistance!
Thanks for the additional details @SimpleSimon. I am unable to replicate this on my end so I’d like to pass this onto engineering to see if they can replicate it. Can you please try to capture a video of your process and the issue, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Then I can forward it to engineering. Thanks!
Here’s the link to the video I captured of the issue: Video Link.
In the video, you can see that I created a playlist and added two videos. The videos play correctly when I load them onto the decks initially. However, after closing and reopening djay Pro, the videos no longer load and appear blank. Thanks for passing this on to the engineering team!
Thanks for the video @SimpleSimon. This is very helpful. I’ll report back when I have news.
Hi @SimpleSimon, does the issue also happen when loading the videos directly from the Finder? It also looks a bit like djay can’t fully access the folder(s) where your videos are stored. Can you please confirm that djay has full access to the necessary folders? Thanks!
Thanks, @Slak_Jaw! My videos were stored on the Desktop, and I realized that djay Pro didn’t have full access. After enabling full access in the settings, the problem is now solved. Appreciate your help!
You’re welcome @SimpleSimon. Thanks for the follow up.
