Your question:
Sup yall, been djaying for a year or so. Mostly with djay pro starting with my phone on dvs then just got a MacBook. I swear the wave forms never jumped around like this before but now it’s doing it on both devices when I try and beat match if I miss the one or just want to slow down a track. I get it’s doing that because the slower a song the longer it is but it’s too jarring! Especially if I scratch. Any way to turn this off. Here is a video of what I’m talking about. Thanks for any help

Btw I just realized I messed the hardware form when I posted. I’m on an m4 MacBook, technics with DVS and a s5 mixer. Also it’s hard to see when mean in the video I used so here is another https://youtu.be/IlFVth2H1vU
Hi @INDIANAJUNE2, thanks for the details and video.
- What version of djay and macOS are you using?
- Does this happen with all songs or just specific ones? Can you share some of the songs so we can test on our end?
- Can you please confirm if the BPM is set to Dynamic or Straight for your songs? If set to Dynamic, does changing it to Straight solve the issue?
Also I think it’s probably worth mentioning that it doesn’t happen on
serato. So I don’t think it’s my decks or mixer
Thanks for the additional info @INDIANAJUNE2. Can you please answer my questions above so I can help you troubleshoot this further? Thanks.
I answered your initial questions in the first email. Did you not receive it, or was there a message I missed ? If it was the first: it happens on every song, I’m up to date on MacBook and iOS as well as Djay, and dynamic or straight does not seem to matter. I understand why it’s happening, when you slow the song down it expands because the song takes longer, and when you nudge it forward it shrinks because it’s shorter, but it seems way to sensitive. It’s hard to beat match when the lines are going in the opposite direction of where you’re trying to make them go. Know I should be doing it by ear but I’m new and it helps.
If you also sent an email to support, I will not see it as email support is a different team than the Community support. Thanks for answering my questions above. So, to confirm, you are using djay 5.4.2, macOS 15.6.1 and iOS 18.6.2? Thanks!
Oh, wierd. Yeah it got sent to me as an email so I’ve been responding there. All my messages besides this one have come from my email. All good though, now I know. Yeah I’m up to date on everything.
I tried i tried a different turntable last night and got the same result. Going to try different control vinyl later but I don’t think it will help. Is this not an intended feature ? The AI trying calculate the length of the song. Maybe there is a way to make it less sensitive?
Thanks for the additional info @INDIANAJUNE2. I tested the pitch bending on my non-DVS system and it doesn’t behave like your videos. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to a DVS system to try to replicate this myself so I’ll need to pass this onto our engineering team for review next week. I’ll report back as soon as I have news. Thanks!
Hi again @INDIANAJUNE2, I spoke with engineering and this is currently expected behaviour with DVS. The waveform resizing is done so when the songs play in sync they actually run in parallel. Since djay can’t tell if you are pitch bending or moving the pitch fader we unfortunately can’t avoid it entirely when pitch bending. We might consider adding a setting for this on a future update though. Thanks for the input!

Hey, thanks for going the extra distance for me I appreciate it. Is that with sync off as well? I know it’s on in the video but I have it set to bpm only, but also this happens with it off as well.
You’re welcome @INDIANAJUNE2. Sync off will not change the waveform resizing.
