Andrew, I picked mine up last week at the DJ EXPO in Atlantic City,NJ its a fun little piece, but the interaction between the two is a bit buggy. I posted about it last night and it looks like it was removed…still searching
Scott - I didnt notice the automix. I was trying to figure out some issues like, why does the scratching stop after about 30 seconds and how come i can’t access the instant efx? I have a gig tonight and I’m debating on using it, but I will have it out again on Friday and Saturday for gigs. Ill look into the automix and see if I can get it going. Def post back if you get it before I do. I don’t think support is very good around here
Hey Tech - Funny you should ask that question. I was going to use it for my gig tonight but I just don’t have enough of my music on the ipad yet to feel comfortable about handling requests. I also gave some thought to not having a “waitlist” (that is was virtual dj calls it, thats my primary with a denon mc 6000 controller) The work around for that is using the que list (in the automix section) but like Scott mentioned he cant find the automix section when it is hooked up to the Numark. Im definitely using it at both my weddings this weekend as I need a small setup for a cocktail hour in another room and Im doing a very urban heavy wedding tmrw night. I will def post back with all info over the next three nights.
Im really disappointed in both Numark and Algorithm’s lack of support. Its frustrating when you get nothing back.
Hey Dana - I do not use the cloud, sorry I cant be of more help
So Scott - I just hooked it up real quick - You are right - no automix feature - boooo!
I also have no tape marker even when it is turned on and I do not have any of the instant efx that are supposed to be available - can you tell me if you have those issues?
Well if you watch the vids on Youtube the version of DJay they are playing with isnt the one we have. Im hoping scott from the previous post can confirm the same issues that I have. There is no automix feature right now, so the que list is out.
I saw those Altos at the Show in AC…And im the same way smaller, smaller, smaller; i dont know how well those speakers will fill a room tho…but your right it would look sweet
Yea I sometimes use Virtual DJ remote to run my system if I am by myself, I usually have someone with me so I don’t need it often
Ive been going to the AC show the last 18 years or so and this year has been the best of all time, because technology is making things happen.
That was one of the main reasns I wasn’t going to purchase it, but there is a workaround I am trying to confirm. If you have a wifi drive and create an itunes folder on it the ipad should be able to pick it up, therefor, unlimited storage. Not sure if that will work or not. Im looking at getting an air stash key drive it creates its own network - pretty cool
Anders - thanks so much for getting back to us! I also heard back from someone on the facebook page as well! good stuff.
Tech are you my long lost twin?! I say all the time that you can do a party with a 150 songs, if you got into a jam. what is your bit rate tho, 128 is crappy - not to say that probably more than half my collection is at that rate, but its stuff I rarely play anymore. I was driving behind a guy yesterday who had a magnetic sign on his car. His advertisement mentioned his name and that he carries over 250,000 songs and tracks (does karaoke too) who the hell needs that many songs. last week I deleted almost three thousand songs and video. true a lot were duplicate tracks but still, 3000 is a lot!
Good stuff
From what we hear it will be in stores late September, but please feel free to check with Numark directly on this.
By the way, djay will be updated shortly with many improvements and fixes for the iDJ Pro, including Automix, better FX, tape marker, and more!
Lou- gotta ask you a few questions about the functionality of djay [since algoriddim’s/numark’s websites don’t give details]; would you play-out/rock a gig with it in its current state? I have a NS6 with Serato ITCH and my biggest concern is not having a ‘prepare’ window to line up requests rather than having to write them down on a notepad…
What are your ‘working DJ’ thoughts on the setup?
I think Numark\Algoriddim are being silent right now waiting for the official launch in a couple of weeks. Who knows, there could be another update to djay- since iOS6 will be out by then and my tests with iOS6 have shown the iDJ Live won’t work with that version of iOS right now.
I originally had the same plans for the iDJ Pro in my setup: a small/backup/ceremony controller while I use the NS6 as my main system. But I am thinking about getting smaller, not bigger. If I can move to a wireless setup [iDJ Pro to Alto Professional TS115W’s], it would look so tight at weddings!
My dream setup is for djay on iPad to become compatible with the djay remote on iPhone and I could manage the sound at a distance. I currently use djay remote on my iPad to remote control djay for Mac/NS6 at wedding gigs.
I am going to hit some of those mobile DJ trade shows like AC & Vegas next year. Time to step my game up and see how the ‘big boys’ do it. After 20yrs of working for other companies & using my own equipment, I think it is time to start my own company.
Wireless is becoming the trend in the industry, from PA systems to lighting. Someone is going to get it done right and I want to be on that bandwagon…
***The following is my personal philosophy/approach to DJing with an iPad; your situation may vary and I do not believe my setup is the best/only way to do it…***
As a mobile DJ, the vast majority of weddings/mitzvahs/parties can be rocked with a standard set of 200 songs. As a backup/emergency device, I always bring my 64GB iPad & keep it synced with several playlists for specific styles/genres/events:
#1- Standard issue ‘DJ Tools/Platinum Series’ library on my device is mandatory [4GB],
#2- The last 6 months of Top 40/Dance/Urban Promo Only ‘quick edit’ tracks [3GB],
#3- any specific or anticipated requests, dinner music sets, or cocktail hour sounds [2GB, depending on how paranoid I am]!
That leaves me TONS of space, even if I only had a 16GB iPad. However, I currently keep about 6GB of music videos on my iPad for practicing with vjay. With that added in, I have a total of 2600 songs/videos on my device which comes to 17GB as a whole.
Unless you take requests from a crazy-diverse crowd, your average mobile DJ set lasts between 2 to 4hrs. At an average of 3min per song, that is 20 songs per hour… You honestly don’t NEED to bring more than 500 songs if you properly plan and program your event [less than 3GB], so you still have a lot of room to play with for music storage.
If you absolutely MUST carry your entire library with you, try looking into the Seagate GoFlex Satellite Mobile Wireless HDD [500GB]: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Satelli…
Since I switched to Promo Only’s ‘Pool’ download system last year, my new music library is 320 while most of my older stuff is 128; some is 192. Anything I rip onto my MBP is encoded as ‘Apple Lossless’, but I rarely deal with CDs anymore. My biggest worry is the video tracks I get from Promo Only- since HD is the only way they send the files out, I have it limited to 360p to preserve storage space on my iPad.
I will be upset to lose my Serato Whitelabel tracks when I start using the iDJ Pro, but that was only a little over 3000 tracks, most of which was remixes and obscure tracks/artists dumped on us by the participating labels- no real loss.
My total library, including video, is 45K and growing; kind of complicates iCloud Match as an option with their 25K limit. Then again, I could segregate my library between match-worthy music and less popular stuff. The more I think about how iTunes Match works and the limitations of cell/wifi connectivity at events, I wouldn’t ever rely on having access to iTunes Match during an event…
I know guys that rely on Pandora/Spotify/Songza for dinner music and freak when a venue has no cell reception or wifi. Seriously, what are they thinking?!?
Hi, I called a store in UK and was told could be late September?
Lou since you have an IDJ Pro…I just got mine, do you know how to use the automix mode when the ipad is in the idj pro in portrait mode? I know in standard mode there is button that says automix right in the middle in the vertical orientation I do not see that option or know of a way to swap back and forth since I updated Djay to the latest version
Are you able to access your music stored on iCloud?
