I just hope this updates stop my windows 11 from crashing with rane four! Can not trust for a gig , have to go back to setato even though i like deejay pro better!
I’m not trying to start a debate or say you’re doing anything wrong by using Windows — it’s just another operating system, with its pros and cons. But (fingers crossed ), this doesn’t happen on macOS.
I’m not only a Windows user for some programs, but I also provide support for an application that’s built exclusively for Windows. And every time Microsoft releases an update, it breaks something in the program. This negatively affects the user experience with our software — and the same thing happens with Rane. I used to have the same issue with Windows and Rekordbox some time ago: every update made me nervous because I never knew what would break next (and sometimes it did break the program — luckily before a set).
Since I switched to macOS for my DJ work, zero problems. It’s true that the update system on macOS is different from Windows — it’s easier to choose when to update, and macOS updates are complete, meaning they include both hardware and software in the same package. Windows doesn’t do that: hardware and software updates are separate. And trust me, that’s what causes most of the issues — Windows updates with its “improvements,” but the hardware drivers lag behind until they catch up… and meanwhile, the user is left worrying. On macOS, everything updates together.
I’m not saying you need to buy a Mac, but if I may give you a bit of advice — if you ever get the chance, consider it, even with slightly older models. I’ve done sets with a 2011 Mac in 2023 running Rekordbox, and it worked infinitely better than a more powerful Windows laptop at the time.
Like I said, I don’t want to use your post to start a debate — I just wanted to encourage you, because I totally understand the fear you’re feeling.
One more tip I can give you: try delaying Windows updates or configuring them so they don’t install automatically. That way, you can decide when to install them.
Really sound advice.
…except you have started one! I’m a Windows user (have been since early 90s) and I think it’s unfair to claim that Microsoft updates break programs. That’s not been my experience.
On the other hand there are plenty of recorded instances where Mac users have installed the latest OS from Apple and it’s caused issues. Typically this happens because users blindly install the updates (even betas) as soon as they’re released, without consideration for the consequences, then when issues arise they blame the other vendors, not Apple.
They don’t wait for the vendors to confirm compatibility. I’ve witnessed this countless times on multiple forums.
Does anyone have any suggestions or tutorials for windows 11? I think the issue may be that rane four is not midi mapped so instrumental and acapella buttons is not functioning . Excuse my ignorance I have use traktor rekordbox serato and even torque
but use to plug and play and seen no videos on midi mapping rane four with djay pro
This is exactly what I wanted to avoid.
If you agree, so we don’t go off-topic here, let’s discuss it in a post in the general section. I’m sure there are plenty of opinions and we can all get some clear takeaways from it.
The Rane should definitely be plug & play - it’s natively supported. Are you 100% certain it’s Windows crashing and not Djay Pro?
You’ll need to post much more detail about your computer, the Windows version, the DJay Pro version, your config in Djay Pro settings etc.
The best way of avoiding it is by not saying it!
You make your disclaimer but then you say it anyway - that (paraphrasing) Windows is dreadful and Macs are perfect. Windows users (over 70% of the market) are not just going to sit back and take it!
By all means make your recommendations/suggestions, but do it without the hyperbole.
