Would you pay double for faster core feature development & improved stability?

Would you pay Double for DJay Pro if it meant FASTER DEVELOPMENT of Core Features and more stability?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion among fellow djay Pro users, especially those who depend on the software professionally and not just as a hobby.

Over the past year, many of us have submitted countless useful suggestions aimed at improving the core usability and functionality of djay Pro. While there’s been some progress, for me it often feels like development on these essential features is moving at a snail’s pace.

Instead, resources seem to be directed towards futuristic innovations like VisionOS and Meta compatibility, which, while exciting for some, don’t really help us day-to-day as working DJs.

Here’s my question:

Would you be willing to pay double the current yearly subscription price??
if it meant that Algoriddim could:

  1. Significantly speed up development on basic usability features that help in the day to day routine?
  2. Dedicate more effort to making djay Pro more stable and reliable for professional use.
  3. Cherry-picking more of the best features from its biggest rival, RekordBox, while maintaining djay Pro’s unique identity and strengths in the DJ software landscape.

I think it’s worth considering—after all, a more reliable, professional tool with competitive features could make all the difference for those of us who rely on djay Pro in our careers.

==> Please take the effort to share your opinion and thoughts in order for Algoriddim to learn from it. Maybe we can make some impact.

  • Yes, I would pay double yearly fee in return for faster Development of core improvements
  • No, I don’t want to pay a cent more. I am happy now
  • Other (please specify in the comments).

This is the kind of topic I want to have in this discussion forum.
There haven’t really been a customer survey either about features and future developement of DJay Pro.

I’m not so sure what I’m going to answer, but sometimes companies need to evaluate all options very carefully.

Maybe it’s just difficult for Algoriddim to find out qualified developers or the salary of qualified developers are so hight that it’s impossible to hire them.

That’s said: I have been 10+ years developing software in tech industry for safety critical systems. I ended up in a training program and it took a year be qualified. After that I was only allowed to code with a mentor, with whom we checked my changes to the code.

For me dj app is a “safety critical” in a sense, it should not be crahsed in any circumstances.
Also the current ecosystems : macOS, iOS, android as a professional sw developer, they are much harder to learn than other platform like Windows.

And dj apps won’t be coded in java, javascript, dotnet… most probably they are coded in c / c++ to be efficient enough.

What I see is that Algoriddim should consider where to focus their most valuable resources i.e developers. Why to keep Android support alive, when it seems that the Android ecosystem is diveded to “manufacturer branches” so that it’s almost impossible to say if some android device is compatible with djpro.

depends on which new features come with the additional development. av clips in the sampler and custom loops in that loop player thing would be awesome.

I’d rather pay to purchase the software for life, as I did with VirtualDJ seventeen years ago.

Interesting topic @DJ_Big_Blender. Thanks for posting. I’m looking forward to seeing where this conversation goes as well.

We may not have to pay double if Apple puts some money behind the greatest Dj program (Djay). They (Apple ) got into video, audio, graphic design with the purchase of pixelmator. Can’t help but wonder if they’re looking to invest in the DJ sector and if Algoriddim is willing to deal with them. I mean they can’t let ALPHA THETA be the only show in town if that deal with serato goes through. Maybe we’ll get an all in one with Djay installed. Or hardware strictly dedicated to Djay like denon ands serato with alpha theta. I believe this software is the future. Maybe reloop will make some cooler gear .

I believe they’re doing a good job keeping the software updated. If only they had their own hardware to go with it :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head: or a box like the Rane Four specifically designed for the software. Then maybe the software will be included with the hardware. No more monthly subscription.

Everyone may have different requirements, but I don’t have the feeling that development at Algoriddim is progressing slowly. On the contrary, DJay in particular has been expanded with many new features in recent years, more than can be said for other products, at least as far as I can tell. And I’ve never really had any problems with stability.
I also have to say that DJay is not cheap, mainly because of the subscription. I would certainly be prepared to spend more money on it, but then as a one-off purchase.

That is a key point. In my opinion, Algoriddim could attract significantly more users if there was a one-time purchase option. I know many people who generally avoid subscription software.

Yes, I am subscription averse as well. But unfortunately the subscription model is more lucrative for software companies. Just take @PKtheDJ ‘s example — 17 years of VDJ software subscription costs the same as 13 one-time purchases (with today’s prices). So, it is clear that subscription is the way to go business case wise.

Bear in mind that with VDJ, Atomix offer a choice between one-off purchase of a Pro license, purchase of a Home license (per controller) or subscription to a Pro license. People use all three.

Yes I’d easily pay double or more if the program was rock solid and have all features that work.

My dream music software company is you buy the main software with industry standard features and then pay for any custom features you want implemented. The company would then code that feature for you for a reasonable rate, then possibly use your custom feature as an add on for other customers for a fee. Once they clear the cost that you paid, your next custom feature request would be at a discount or something.

With everything you purchase from cars, clothing, remodeling the house, ect… those can be customized but buying music software can’t ? The music software industry need to change there business strategy. Get into customization! With one custom feature at around 900.00 they can easily cover how much 200 subscribers would bring in. That’s only with one customer customization. Imagine how many dj’s would get in line to get their personal feature implemented!
And with AI, the amount of time to code is greatly shorten.

Your dj software is the heart of your performance and business! Me personally I would pay 900.00 or more to have a feature that would help my workflow and make my dj experience more enjoyable instead of waiting around 5 years hoping my feature request is implemented or probably never.
Just in case some dj’s are thinking it’s crazy to spend 900-2k on your software, then I respectfully assume you don’t put your software as a top priority out of all your equipment. I know dj’s that drop 3-4k on speakers, 600.00 on headphones, what makes your software (work exactly the way you want) any different? It really boils down to the software being good enough for your needs and how much your willing to pay to have it work exactly the way you want.

Thanks!

I honestly don’t need any more “features” as the software does what it needs to do,
There are improvements on existing features that I would like to see like easily syncing between devices and Neural Vocal post fader effects for example,

I would pay double just for easy syncing between Mac and iOS devices. Throw in the ability to keep and sync files and changes across iCloud storage and you’d need to stop me throwing money at you. As it stands now, it is an absolute wheelie bin of frustration and complexity involving way too many workarounds to be sustainable. I stick with it because the features are otherwise :100:
