write/update BPM data in iTunes Library

Most of the songs in my iTunes Library miss BPM data, therefore it is not possible to create Smart Playlists using this parameter.

It could be useful to classify songs not only by genre/artist/year… but also by the average BPM, so that it could be easier/quicker to browse among “similar” songs especially when mixing live, e.g. in a party.

Therefore I would allow “djay” to write back into my iTunes library in order to update it with missing data. In order to contain the risk of corrupting the Library I would allow “djay” to write this number only if it is missing and, above all, I would allow it to access and modify only this field of the iTunes Library.

Michele

This is a great Idea. Was there any follow-up to this post?

Yes, on Djay Pro 2
In the pass I create smart playlists on iTunes with conditions.
This new version now has the ability to input those conditions directly.
i.e. BMPS:
in the past I had to analyze a track through djay.
Remember the BPM, right click the track and “show in iTunes”.
Input that BPM in iTunes.
Then create a new “smart playlist with that BPM.
Now on Djay Pro 2, just tap on the “filter” then add conditions.
This is a great feature.

Tag editor may work for you

is that possible by now with djay2pro?

hi there, thanks for your reply. i was referring more to:
>>>Therefore I would allow “djay” to write back into my iTunes library in order to update it with missing data.
that is still missing. no?

thanks!
it would be great if we cloud make use of the bpm djay already computet, though. i will write to the support directly now.
best wishes!

Here is a script that works with djay pro 2 on Mac. It writes the BPM info stored in the djay pro 2 metadata back to the iTunes meta tags:
